How does a revolutionary movement gain recruits or win supporters?

By having a good idea, as far as it goes, solving a problem and promises of more solutions from that. Why make it more complex? Study long, study wrong. I guess the leader is charismatic and a bit sharper, even if insane. That way they fit right in to society.
