Golden rule for those who want to quit, you have to really want to, I mean really, worked for me and I was a heavy smoker for more than 36 years.

It was 10 months yesterday for me. I gave up the day my Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. I didn't give it up for me- I loved it! I gave it up for those I love. It's very distressing watching someone you love die a slow painful death. Unfortunately most smokers won't be lucky enough to just drop dead from a stroke or heart attack. I decided that I wouldn't put my hubby through what my Dad is making my Mum (and the rest of us) go through.

I quit cold turkey. There's been some tough days, but they're few and far between now. It really is hard to give up smoking- the secret is not to start. It's like losing a friend. I just keep telling myself that I wouldn't be friends with a drug pusher and that's what old Nic (nicotine & all the rest) is.

Please- if you still smoke, at least keep trying to give it up. One day it might just work.

If you're going to smoke or do other things that could harm the baby then in my opinion you don't give a rats a*s about the little thing you're carrying around inside you. I smoke but quit when I was 2 months along with my oldest and didn't start back up til my youngest was around 9 months old I also did not smoke around them, always in another room when the house couldn't be opened up and very well ventilated or outside when it is warm enough. Here's a story about a woman who smoked while pregnant-true story-She was told during her pregnancy (don't know which month, obviously a month where the baby is fully developed and you either know if anythings wrong or not) that the baby's lungs were not developed and there was nothing that could be done about it. When the baby was to be born it would die. End of story. She smoked. Could that have been a reason for this? Why even take the chance?!? Why even do that to the little life that you've created and you have growing inside of you?!? Beats the h*ll outta me!

I quit smoking 2years, 2 months and 3 weeks ago and I still miss it. I can smell someone smoking a long ways away but it doesn't smell good on someone's clothes, so maybe someday I will hate smoking. I quit because it was killing me not because I hated smoking. I hope I hate it someday. Oh, I used the patch to quit, couldn't of done it without it!

yes, 3 yrs. ago !!! I think you just have to quit...no "weaning". If you try to cut down, you're still smoking. To quit smoking you just have to quit. But, only you can do it.
