Here is my PCOS story. MY husband and I were married in 1986 and had a son born in 2003. My cycle was never regular, and before we even started trying to have children I was diagnosed with PCOS. It took us 7.5 years and seven different doctors before we finally got pregnant.

We had one year without medication, at least one year on Clomed 100 or 150 (no results),
then an infertility specialist (more tests, required immunization, 2 months of birth control, followed by 13 months without a cycle).
I was told that my next step was Pergonal shots. (I chose to try adoption instead.)

We finally heard of a doctor prescribing the diabetic drug Glucophage (metformin) for infertility.
He referred me to an endocrinologist which prescribed and monitored the medication.
The problem: if I wasn't careful what I ate, the medication made me sick. (I had to start with one pill and build up to 3 a day, It took me over a month to add the 3rd pill)
But it worked! It also helped me loose weight easier.

My first “natural” cycle took two plus months.
The next cycle, just under two months.
Then cycles in the 31-39 day range.
I added Clomed (50) "again" with my sixth cycle,
And 100 with my seventh cycle.
The combination of Metformin and Clomed 100 worked for me, and I got pregnant.
I continued the Metformin until one month before our son's birth.

After our son's birth my weight dropped to within five pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight.
My cycle resumed naturally to the 31-39 day range.
One year later, I had returned to my old eating habits, and my weight returned and so did my PCOS symptoms.

Around this time I was introduced to a health and nutrition company and decided to try their RESET program. Since RESET my cycles resumed to the 32-44 day range naturally with a few exceptions. Many times I have wondered if this would have helped me in the first place.

I have been on metformin for several months now and it is just starting to help regulate my sugar levels. exercise does help. Your Doctor is guessing at what strengh you need based on his/her experience. The dosage level may have to be adjusted as you move on with your life. I wish good health to you.

Metformin helps your muscles absorb glucose (sugar).
If your diet hasn't changed, you won't feel any better.
You also need to use those muscles to burn sugar.
