Why do some people think the jena six dont deserve at least 8 years in prison?
no matter what happend before or after this incident. at a party or a store.. or a tree.. the fact remains THAT THESE 6 GANG MEMBERS JUMPED ON WHITE KID. It is not the white peoples fault that the police didnt think they had enough evidence to charge the white kids with an alleged assault that some black kid got while trying to attend a party he wasnt invited too. its not his fault that some guy allegedly pulled a gun on some black boys. THE FACT REMAINS THAT THIS CRIME HAPPENED AND WE HAVE A VICTIM. so are you telling me.. that if i white man in my city rapes a black woman.. and the police dont have enough evidence to charge him.. that its ok for a black boy to go and rape a white lady for revenge. because that is exactly what you people are saying when you think these kids dont deserve max time in a prison. its ok though. they ARE going to prison and when we think that they have learned their lesson and can play nice with normal people. we MIGHT let them out of their cages

only a racist would call this a "schoolyard fight" .and they do it to downplay the situation in their own warped little minds. its ok though.. the people that matter(judge, jury,d.a) know this was a premeditated attack.

if it were six white kids beating on one black boy. every single one of you(american born blacks) would be saying the exact oppisite. that its a hate crime and these kids deserve life.

Every member of the Jena 6 gang which is actually 7 ( the 7th member is only 14) should be send to prison. They committed a crime and that fact cannot be ignored.

earthwindfireair..... The victim that the Jena 6 attacked did not provoke them. He also was not involved in any of the other incidents. Even if he had been that still does not give the Jena gang any right to attack him from behind and try to kill him while is was on the ground.

Normal people have to deal with situations that they could consider acts of being provoked. Normal people do not resort to violence. Criminals like the Jena gang do and they go to prison where they belong. I have no sympathy for any of the Jena 6 gang. I hope when Michal Bell gets to prison that someone beats the crap out of him. He will meet criminals in prison that will show him what they think of low life cowards like him.

Star football player ? no way. How could he be in a small school like Jena High.

The problem is not "us people", the problem is "you people" who continually deny the fact that there is still racism in America. The Jena 6 boys were provoked. Don't tell me "you people" don't react when you're provoked because you damn well do. The kid who was beat up was part of a larger group of white boys who had jumped a black kid and the police didn't so much as blink. If you ask me, the white kid got his *** kicked, which is exactly what he deserved.

I want the evidence - all of it - before I come to any conclusion at all. However, I will say that there is a difference between putting up a noose (although disgusting and tasteless) and actually beating somebody unconscious. From what I've heard the judge in this case is treating this correctly and ignoring public opinion. Let the evidence come out first, and then we can all decide. This is in a sense similar to the Duke rape case - the evidence isn't in and some people (that weren't even there) have already made up their minds. They were wrong about that - they could be wrong about this case too. Let the evidence show what really happened, and then decide what should be done.

A couple of weeks ago, 5 black kids beat up a 13 year old white kid in...can't remember if it was Chesapeake or Norfolk, Virginia (we're so on top of each other here). Bet you never heard about that...and this is a highly populated area!
Or several months ago in Norfolk a group of black teens beat up another black teen and he died. Never heard about that either, did you.

The media has glorified the event to get your attention . They fail to report all the facts because no one would really care . They are not lying or making up facts , just presenting parts .

They fail to mention the teen that was beaten had nothing to do with the previous event , that he was knock unconscious on the first hit and then beaten by the 6 teens . Or the fact that the one teen that has been found guilty had 4 previous charges of assault . The 6 teens had threatened and harassed numerous teens before this .

Everybody black or white that did something wrong should be dealt with for their actions .

You are the reason the racism will always be a defining characteristic of the United States of America. We should change our name to the "Divided Racist and Biggots". And biggluvxx is the man!!

This isn't really a question, this is more of your statement or rant should I say. What you say is irrational could just be that ppl disagree with your point of view.

I don't think they deserve 8 years in prison & that pretty much won't change.

It doesn't even matter what color the people involved were. You assault someone then you go to jail. Plain and simple. Who cares what color they are. They obviously wanted to go to jail, because one of the kids involved was told to ignore what was happening. He didn't listen, and now he has to face the consequences. Next time they will learn to walk away.

It's simple. America needs to crack down on gangs. These criminals are a gang and they need to go down. Do blacks truly feel that these punks have never broken the law before? How many crimes does one have to committ before they finally get punished? STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!

ah... it is completely rational to not only harbor a grudge against a media circus and only evaluate a portion of the evidence. very rational indeed.
