Assuming that Hitlery will be the presidential nominee, I will lay a dollar to a doughnut that the VP nominee will be former representative Harold Ford, Jr of Tennessee.
He is a black democrat with relatively centrist views who just lost a very close Senatorial campaign to Bob Corker in 2006. He has obviously played well in a Southern state that went twice for Bush, but previously went twice for Bill Clinton. I'm sure that it has escaped the notice of no one at Clinton, Inc. that he could very possibly shift the balance of at least one Southern state to Clinton. If the last couple of elections are any indication, that is all it would take to secure victory.
He is currently working as a contributor on Fox News and has turned down several more lucrative offers. I think he's been told to increase his exposure and to hold out for something bigger.

First tell me who the nominee will be. Assuming that either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton will be the nominee, the likely choices are probably similar.
Option #1 -- an experienced Senator from a swing state -- Senator Bayh best fits this bill but Indiana is not much of a swing state.
Option #2 -- a Governor -- you have strong Democratic governors in Norh Carolina, Wyoming, and Montana. You also have former governors like Governor Vilsik of Iowa.

My guess would be Bill Richardson. The GOP has picked up support among Hispanics and Richardson has a Hispanic mother which should help Democrats win back more Hispanics, Richardson balances Hillary geographically, gender-wise, and he has tons of experience.
I won't vote for them, or the GOP candidate, due to my insistence on voting for someone who supports (or whose policies would improve the chances of) development of nonlethal weapons and nonlethal pregnancy termination technology to replace lethal methods. Ron Paul or Joe Schriner come closer to that so far, even though I know they have little or no chance of winning.
But, if I can't have a President I'm willing to vote for, Richardson or Obama being "a heartbeat away" may be the best I can hope for.

The best and most wonderful thing will be, for Kucinich to be president-if the Democrats win-and for Ron Paul to be vice president, please God. And if the Republicans win, the Best will be for Ron Paul to be president and for Kucinich to be vice president, please God.
