i need some SERIOUS help on those two-column proofs, statement and reasons things!! I DO NOT GET THEM AT ALL!! i asked my teacher, my friends (which all kinda gave up on me because I didn't get how to do it no matter how well they explain)
I'm starting to lose all hope... and theres a test on it tomorrow
O_o

i'm pretty sure asking about it here isn't going to help me much either, but ehhh i'll try it anyways and pray someone out there could help me..

Here's one of the problems from my homework:

1.write the given stuff 1. Given- that is always the 1st reason
2. a=b, b=c, so a=c 2. something like "transitive"
3. 3.
4 4.

its kinda different for each proof. the last step is always what u are trying to prove. good luck!

heeey are you doing online geometry through highschool.net, too? anyway the point of two column proofs is just anotherway of showing how you figured out your answer. on the left side, you have what you did in numbers. on the right column, you write in words what you did, and sometimes why. for your math problem, you gave me the given but not what to work for! sorry i couldnt help you on that! good luck!

Well you are making it very hard because you have not said what is to be proven. I am going to guess that we are to prove that BC congruent AC

1. AE congruent BD.................1. Given
2. CE congruent CD.................2. Given
3. AE - CE = BD -CD ..............3. Subtraction Axiom
4. AC = AE-CE.........................4. Line Segment Subtraction
5. BC = BD-CD.........................5. Same as Reason 4.
6. BC congruent AC.................6. Both are = to = things

Reason 6 could be better stated as Things equal to equal things are equal to each other. In algebraic terms we would say If a=c and b=d and c=d then a=b.
