Sometimes words are nothing; other times they are everything. I believe that whoever came up with that cliche "Sticks and stones can break my bones, yet words can never hurt me." had never before felt the emotional impact-positive or negative-that words have the power to create.
It is truly painful to be told that you can't do something, especially when you haven't yet experienced the success you wish for. But that discouragement becomes meaningless once you realize that you and God are the only ones in control of your own destiny.

To me it's not the words used, but the intentions behind them- what is that person is conveying. For example, my young daughter screaming I hate you in hurt and anger will sadden me, while a friend that is teasing may say I hate you because I got the last potato chip they wanted and I'll laugh.

This morning when my daughter woke up and came downstairs. I wanted to play and joke and she was in a very bad mood. I think she just told me to get lost. I did finally get a smile out of her when I got close enough to give her a tickle.

More often than I care to admit. Especially when I was a kid, I would take everything to heart. Now, I try to blow it off, or at least appear as if I have done so.

I don't really care to remember when but someone asked me once " What are you waiting to die? " I thought it was very cruel! After I had a stroke!
