First of all Hon, I would like to say that telling a depressed person just to "snap out of it" is like telling a quadraplegic to get up and walk.
And forget God, too. God is not going to pass a hand over your head and miraculously cure your clinical depression (that is what you're suffering from.)
I have been where you are Hon, and I was there for years before I got smart enough to seek help. Clinical depression is an imbalance in the production of certain chemicals in your brain. Taking medication for it is no different than a diabetic taking insulin!
You have ALL the signs of clinical depression, and you very much need to see a psychiatrist. You may have to try a few different meds until you find the right fit, as I did. But you WILL come out of this.
I have been taking Paxil for fifteen years, and I will take it for all my life, but that's a small price to pay for actually feeling like a human being. My wonderful psychiatrist literally saved my life. Best of luck to you Hon...please, get on that phone tomorrow morning and make an appointment!

You have depression. Depression is an illness like anything else...high blood pressure, diabetes, etc... It has a lot to do with levels of neurotransmitters in your brain, and that's why, when people are really depressed (like you are), talk therapy ("on the couch") doesn't usually work, at least as a single therapy. There are lots of medications out there that can help, and some of the newer ones have many fewer side effects than the first, second, and even third generation antidepressants. You will be shocked at how much better you can feel by just starting medication. The thing is, you must give the medication at least two weeks, sometimes longer, before you notice a difference. (actually your friends and family may see an improvement before you do...it's subtle but steady) So go see your internist, GP, family doctor, even your gynecologist asap. All of them can prescribe an antidepressant to get you going, and probably can refer you for some counseling. Also, on campus, there is probably a student health center which sees depression in students ALL THE TIME. They should totally be able to take care of you. Get help NOW. Life is short, and shouldn't be wasted feeling lousy. And remember you are not alone, though you could probably swear you were the only one feeling this way. It's all part of the depression and, for want of a better term, the chemical imbalance, in your brain. Not getting out of bed, even overt agoraphobia (fear of open places) are very common symptoms when depresseion is moderate or severe. Weight gain or loss, too much sleep or too little. Lack of ability to concentrate (do you feel demented sometimes?). Lack of interest in the usual things that used to make you happy...all symptoms you may feel when you are deeply depressed. But again, fear not, this is not permanent if you get help. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Awww hun, i'm sorry to hear about what you're going through, it must be really hard. I've felt the exact same way for three yeras now and all i can tell you is fight it as hard as you can before it gets worse. Try to focus your energy into studying for school and doing productive things. Keep yourself as busy as you can so that you don't have time to think about all the depressing ****. If you don't feel like talking to people, that's fine. Try to remain in contact with a couple people you are or were once close to, but don't feel the need to go out and socialize. It is important for you to help yourself get better right now.
I strongly suggest going to see a therapist or psychologist (preferable not a psychiatrist cause they generally just want to put you on a bunch of meds). It doesn't mean you're crazy or anything, but they would be able to help you figure out why you're feeling this way and possibly help you a lot.
Good luck

Please Adrianna take the step in finding a therapist. It sounds like you have clinical depression which can be helped with meds and therapy. You're only 21 with your whole life ahead of you. Avail yourself of all the help that's out there. It'll take time, but gradually you will feel better. If you've felt like this before, you most likely have a genetic pre-dispostion to depression. You say you shouldn't have to go through this. I hear, and NO ONE should have to go through depression. But it is an illness. The wonderful knews is when treated 90% of the time it can be cured, or controlled. don't wait, pick up the phone. I've been there myself and now life is wonderful. I'llpray for you.

It is time, you leave the house, and go see a professional in Behavior Health. I was just like you, until I had finally had no choice, but to get help. I could not keep staying in the house, I had a job, so I had to get back out there.
You may need to get on a antidepressant. You may experience some side effects for about a week. Until, you body gets used to it. But, if you can deal with that. Then, it will be worth it, especially if that little pill helps you. It did for me.
Good luck.

I know the feeling. Run, don't walk, to a doctor. Get on some antidepressants. Exercise, get fresh air and start a list of all the things you are grateful for. Force yourself to go out, even if it's just to window shop or take a walk. Things will change if you don't feed the negative feelings.

I am not qualified to answer this one but I wish you well, just look at the strangers who wish you well here in Yahoo Answers and I hope this helps you. Best wishes .
Oh yes and why not see a doctor?, I once did when under massive stress in a job and now I don't need help. You took the initiative and asked this question so I believe you will recover.

At 21 my eldest son in his final year of his degree felt exactly the same, some weeks worse than others. He's the really logical type and knew it made sense to get help.He went to his doctor and got anti-depressants and he said it was like a light had been switched back on inside him.He never looked back and now he's coming off them as he really hasn't needed them for a long time.Yesterday he left for a back-packing holiday in China(Beijing to HongKong) and he's doing it on his own, character building he reckons. He has a lovely girlfriend.a terrific job and great social life.
The mind plays tricks on you when you're depressed. When you're better you'll see that and wonder why you let such things get you down.If like him you have clinical depression then there is help out there for you and a whole world to go and see.On you go then. : )
Before you start thinking 'I bet he wasn't as bad as me' believe me ,he was.It can get better, honest.

Hellooooooooooo,
Everyone gets depressed, no one can avoid that, but just put a question to your idle mind. For a moment think that you are not yourself and one with supreme power. As you have the power to do anything, would you go and help each and everyone who is depressed, Can you..i feel a BIG NO, but you would certainly providing a helping hand to those who are ready to fight with the depression. So just fight it out, and njoy the success in simple wins, you would be out of depression very soon..
:) Awaiting for you happy reply

Is it time you replace those feelings with positive and consider getting involved with some interests and family? It's sounds as tho you are tired of sulking and being all about yourself.
