I have a DSL modem that sends out a wireless signal, I just need to plug something into my Desktop to pick up the wireless signals... Suggestions, anyone? Affordable (preferably in the 30-60 american dollar range) that is reliable and works with my 5 year old computer?

A USB Wireless adapter, or a PCI adapter card should work with your desktop. The USB variety is the easiest since you can simply plug it into a USB port. It will of course be left sticking out of our desktop though. If that isn't desirable, then get an internal PCI wireless adapter (linksys, netgear, belkin all make decent adapters of both varieties.

ARE YOU SURE? I;d like to know the make and model of that DSL modem. It just sounds unusual that the DSL supplier would provide a modem and router combination so they won't be able to charge you for the in-home wireless network.

You can purchase a wireless usb adapter- it actually will allow your computer to become wireless and connect with that modem. They are exactly in your price range as well being about $30.
Good luck!
