I would have to say overhauling the rear axle assembly. Most use 90 weight gear oil and it does have a unique smell and is almost impossible to get off your hands and clothes.

No one is "forcing" them to do anything. That said; Working under a poorly maintained vehicle in the wintertime with bad seals or gaskets. The wet road still splashed on the motor and under-carriage. Bad seals and gaskets will include months and maybe years of letting the problem exist. So everything is covered and sometimes encrusted. So, by the time the mechanic/tech gets it, it's major cleanup just to get to the parts needed to be mantained. Normal oil changes and draining the transmission pan are not that bad. Routine in fact.

1st off, Mr Knowitall and Dodge man, nice to see ya'll again, and of course those are some of the worst smelling and clean up jobs.

2nd, in my opinion the worst job that a technician can do is any job that the vehicle owner has let build up over years of neglect, dirt, mud, and oil, and then all of a sudden they want to get their vehicle fixed because they are finally noticing it. Whether it is a transmission job, differential job, or just a plain ol' oil change. Once you get the vehicle in the air, all the dirt and gunk goes just one place,,,down the tech's shirt, thoat, and in his hair.

Good luck and hope this info helps.

Get your car really hot then make them change the oil. Or if you live somewhere it snows drive the car around in the snow then have them work on the exhaust.

Maybe a drum brake job. Diesel truck mechanics always look like they've been through one of those jobs.

I agree

Anything under the car involving any tools will be messy

Even exhaust you can get pretty grimey.

Although transmission swaps are never pretty either
