we have 3 cats and we keep the litter boxes outside on the lanai(live in florida) we just moved to a new house and the only place on the lanai that has enough room is only partially covered. i need a way to cover the back and top of the boxes. maybe something like a tent or lean to kinda thing?? any ideas would be helpful. my dog also uses the litter boxes so i don't want to totally enclose them because i don't think she will use them then. thanks for any ideas.

I'm just amazed that you got the dog to use the litter box. You're awesome. One of my friends built a large box with an open back around her litter box, stained it and made a small flow box on top so that it's very decorative and doesn't look like a litter box. The open back would give your cats and dog access to the litter box, and you won't have the look of a litter box on the lanai. It will just look like a pretty flower stand.

I also live in FL; and have multiple animals.

I'm not sure of any issues you might have about aesthetics, but a 6 mil clear plastic sheeting would work; as would a small Blue Tarp.

First I'd invest in the snap lock, covered boxes. The issue should be considered; that even if not directly affected by rain (HEY WE HAVE WAY TOO MUCH LATELY...LOL) the clay does absorb moisture; certainly from an exterior environment.

You probably shouldn't invest in the CLUMPING kind of litter in this case.

BTW I have a Wolf/Chow who very much enjoys sneaking "STUFF" out of the litter boxes. :)

They sell covers for litter boxes. But I think they come in sets. Top and bottom.

Why not put an dog igloo or regular dog house (without the bottom) over it?
