There are basic natural laws to what can and cannot be crossed, and the most common pet turtle you can probably cross it with is the Yellow-belly Slider.

This is done fairly often, and most of the time the babies look like Red-ear Sliders- big whoop.

If you understand the taxonomic structure- Kingdoms, Order, Families, etc., then the rule is that you can cross different subspecies pretty easily- all of the Sliders in the species Trachemys scripta can crossbreed with fertile offspring easily.

However, try to breed two animals from the same Genus, such as different kinds of Trachemys turtles, usually does not work, and if it does work, the offspring are usually infertile.

It is really hard to cross two animals from different Families- like a Trachemys and a Chrysemys. If you force it somehow, the offspring are not fertile.
