Wickpedia is nothing more then a user data base or blog site. They are very poor at monitoring their web content. This means many people who mistake them for a real encyclopedia get and use false information.

That is because anyone can post an entry to Wikepedia and anyone can alter an entry - so it is neither researched, referenced nor reliable. Some people seem to think it's easier to take the first available answer, rather than check things out, so I'm sure there are any number of essays and research papers turned in as school assignments, that are based on erroneous information.

Of course! Virtually anyone with a stable internet connection and computer access can edit an article.

Some people mistakenly post inaccurate information.

Some articles only have a few people knowledgeable on the subject - as such, sometimes the only people editing them are inarticulate poor spellers.

Or you get people like me, that think it's fun deliberately vandalizing entries. Personally, I just nip in little lies and see how long they go unnoticed.

millions.
Wiki is user input; everything on that site was put in by an average joe.
You could create an account and say that george washington was really a female elephant, with puple spots and green stripes.
Although they do have filters, but they usually miss errors.

(SO WHAT IS THE LESSON FOR THE DAY KIDDIES:

Dont use Wiki for school projects!)

Any member can change it. Companies like Apple have been reported to change what it says about them. People will put false info on it but it's still correct most of the time.

That is because most of it is user-based

So someone can go in and change an article, even put false information into it.

I have.

It's irritating how unreliable it is. And since everyone edits it, the consistency in the writing is atrocious.
