Ive been doing a lot of research now on the past and future status of Kosovo.
Taking into account that the province is 90% Albanian and that it had been repressed by the late President Milosevic, what are the arguements against it obtaining independence?

Kosovo's ethnic Albanian leaders say they are prepared to unilaterally declare independence if talks with Serbia do not produce the desired results by the end of the current negotiations December 10.
Serbia has offered Kosovo wide autonomy, but its ethnic Albanian majority insists on independence.

At this moment the only way to reach a solution is to provide for an internationally-supervised status for Kosovo in order to protect Serbian minority against atrocities by Kosovar Albanians.

No negotiations are possible while people giving answers end their opinions with "LONG LIVE A FREE KOSOVA! "or "How does it feel to be retarded?" or using troll accounts as 'dudi d' ( mika prefers to be female? LOL) or 'who cares' or 'stranger'( all threee troll accounts of 'mika is back' ).

The basic argument is that it will make the Russians and the Serbs mad. Serbia has historical ties to Kosovo. The Russians have traditionally supported Serbia. Russia sits on many of the pipelines that distribute oil and national gas to Europe. The rest of the argument flows from there.

Well, arround 65% of albanians on kosovo are illegal emigrants, so the population can't be counted here. Also, Kosovo is in Serbia over one thousand years (all the way from Rashka), Serbs have been living on Kosovo since than, and hundreds of thousands refugees fled from Kosovo, due to Albanian war crimes, so if we put things in our own hands, and banish illegal albanians, we would have more serbs, that is a pretty good argument.

Kosovo is Serbian holy land, which you can figure from the name Kosovo and Metohija, which means holy land.It is the stronghold of Serbian churches and monasteries and Albanians ruined many of them...The second, even more important argument is that Albanians came there by force, committing genocide over Serbs and forcing them to leave. It would be a disgrace if world would let them unpunished for that.Third reason is that Kosovo would become a giant base of Al Quaeda and other criminals in Europe by gaining independence.

Conclusion:World is letting Albanians transform Serbian holy land into a stronghold of crime and terror.

edit:Not to mention that many Serbs died there in 1389. fighting a battle against four times larger Turkish army and defeating them.

There is no valid argument. The claims againts Kosovo gaining independence are weak, invalid, and based on religious fervor.

I'll give you some hypothetical scenerio Serbia argument againts Kosovo's independence is similar to.

1. France telling Haiti that all the cities have French names, and eventhough you have 98.9% Afro-Haitian (born in the Island for several generations) Haiti is part, or better yet the heart of Colonial France and no way should be a sovereign nation.
2. Canada threating to overun Quebec if the choose to detach their territory from the rest of Canada democratically. You see in Quebec several refferendums have come up short for Quebec independence and if they choose to strike out on their own the entire world would respect their wishes.
3. If Puerto Rico decided no longer to remain a territory of the USA and they choose independence and the US would be like no way and threaten everything from war, to sanctions, and all sorts of dirty tactics.

This just paint a picture of the backwardness of the Serb stance on Kosovo. The Kosovars are not Illegal immigrants but people with roots there some have been there for several generations, some even longer, and some probably settled there around 180 years ago but the point is that Kosovo bitterly contested by the Serbs is the only home that these folks know. So now just because at one point Kosovo came under Serbian rule and churches were build there, and some of the places do have retained Slavic names, the current residence of Kosovo cannot decide their own future?

One might say that both Serbia and Kosovo are dirt poor, what is the difference, remain in Serbia or strike out on your own? The point is the Kosovar Albanians want progress, they want to be in NATO, the EU, they want to be staunch American allies and fight world terrorism. The Serbs on the other hand hate America, and want and have strong Russian ties, they want nationalism, isolation, and support American foes. So now that the then European powers of a hundred years ago decided to punish the Albanians for being supporters of the Ottoman empire, and drew some borders on the map without thinking of the consequences, todays residence of Kosovo should have their future highjacked by a rogue state like Serbia? What crime have they commited but being born? And that in itself is a crime in Serbia's eyes.

THE ONLY ONES THAT WANT KOSOVO TO STAY WITHIN SERBIA ARE NEO-NAZIS. That includes the right wing leadership of Serbia today whom are a bunch of Milosevics dressed in democratic frosting.

AND THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF THEM HERE ON YAHOO ANSWERS. Don't believe me? Look at my thumbs downs in the next couple of days.

Look below me my good man. He said "all Illegals banished from Kosovo". That is the samething Milosevic and his army were trying to do. Banish the Albanians from Kosovo and as they were leaving under threat and violence the Serbs would destroy their document to erase their existance. They will tell you it is a lie and this deeds never took place but here is a proof that they did take place:

mythology and legends . those are the biggest arguments against independence of Kosova . i don't claim that no one believes in myths and legends , but big majority of people are realistic and believes in facts . it's same with international community , BIG majority of western nations ( i can say all of them ) believes that independence of Kosova is something that has to be done , no extending of talks 'cause there's nothing to talk about really . it's in serbian philosophy of life that if you repeat 1 lie 100 times it became true , and they built all their history and their state based on lies . you could lie in 19 century , but it's so hard to lie in 21 century , in this century of information's . aren't they ashamed when entire world is in knowledge of their lies and they go on and on ? do they think that the rest of the world are that foolish to believe them?? or they aren't aware in which century we are living??can philosophy of middle age, philosophy of inquisition and crusade wars find followers in our time ??? everything is possible when you deal with serbijance , you can count on that !

@ to srbija : i have 3 banking accounts , and i got more than 3 yahoo accounts . i use them depending from my needs .
