I have a german exchange partner coming to stay for a week on Monday, she is going on some trips around the country with her school and she needs a packed lunch, what should I put in it? Thanks for the help, I don't know what to put in! She is also a vegetarian so no meat!

What type of cheeses are put into a sandwich in Germany?

Basically you pack the same as your mother used to pack for you when you needed a packed lunch, but instead of meat you can use cheese (if she eats that,) or chocolate spread, jam or something like that.

Couple of slices of bread, topping for the bread like cheese of jam, something to drink, and if it is usual in your area, a mini bar of chocolate or a small pack of crisps, (we never got them at home, they were the highlight of my first London trip.)

If you can ask what she eats, or look what she eats, before you have to make sandies. Like white of brown bread, cheese of no cheese, chocolate or not.
But do not worry to much, all kids on a trip like this will exchange sandwiches if they do not really like them.

Give some fruit too.

Germany is rather large, with many different cheeses. So it will be hard to pick what she would eat at home. But the experience is not about getting her a German lunch, it is about getting her a lunch like you would have had, but with the things she does not eat replaced by things she can eat.
If you would get peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, make one and see how she likes it.
Or make her a marmite sandwich to try one day, yes I have met people who did not grow up with it but did like it, (I am not one myself.)

Sounds like there is more to consider around being a vegetarian rather than German. Most Europeans love crusty bread, hard cheese, and yogurt. My recommendation is to take the person to the grocery store and ask them to pick out what they like. Our grocery stores in the US are quite the experience. Rather than one small shelf of yogurt, we have an entire section! My significant other comes here often and this is quite fun. Try a grocer that handles primarily healthy foods since they will have many vegetarian options.

For cheese, I would ask. Everyone has different tastes. While you may be trying to make her feel at home, you may be surprised that they want to try American food. I bought a sharp aged cheddar cheese for my SO and he loved this more than any of the expensive imported cheeses from his country. Some people don't like peanut butter so I would caution assuming this will be okay. Again, ask and take her with you to the market. This is the best option.

just because she is German dose not mean she can not or will not want to eat American food! Ask her what she wants to take with her!
