fascism doesn't really hold much of a threat in the western world. neither does left wing politics. a very small minority want to be seen as racists, and an even smaller amount would want the wealth they have to be taken away under a left wing regime
these parties are still fringe parties. the fascists play on the minds of hard done by people of a certain race depending on the country, and the left wingers play on the minds of hard done by poor people. as there isnt much poverty in the western world, i doubt it would take grip.
as history will testify, it is only in extreme cases of poverty or mass fear where regimes like this gain majority favour and enjoy power. there's nothing to worry about.
but in answer to your question both are just as dangerous. think about hitler vs. mao. it's hard to decide

That sounds like a mighty loaded question. I believe that there is danger of fascism at the radical end of both sides of the spectrum. The value of the left wing is its belief in the equality of every individual which is admirable, but often gets criticised for its socialization of a nation in order to enforce this equality. The right on the other hand is ready to set the meek to the side to allow the powerful to rise unrestricted, but look when one looks at the USA patriot act you can see how right wing politics will readily restrict the freedom of the individual for the greater good. which interestingly enough is the argument that china uses to defend its human rights record.
Thats all a little off topic. but if you imagine the political spectrum not as a line but as a loop, radical beliefs on either end of the political spectrum can lead to fascism. there is no more danger in believing in left wing politics than there is in following the right, just be cautious of any ideology which calls for massive reform very quickly, because this style of reform inevitibly leads to further reform and eventually towards fascism, with the exception of the enlightenment, there have been very few instances in which massive reforms have not lead to great misery and contention.
Long story short: Fascism can be found on either end of the political spectrum, and there is no more danger in believing one idea than the other, just be cautious with radicalism.

Anything to the far left or right is bad. As the majority of people are in the middle. What ever happened to moderates?

Left, Right. It's like a "Tug o War" The more they pull one way , the more the other lot want to pull the other. The majority of us who want stability compromise oh and democracy have no chance.

It is hard to tell. Left wing politics are ideologies at the same time - same as fasicism was, but they are not as strict nor discriminable. It more dipend on people who represent it and follow it than on politics its self.
