If i am a right handed shot what wide should I be playing on the left side or the right side. I play competitive ball hockey and for the powerplay i play on the left side. What are the advantages of playing on the right than on the left and vice versa

please let me know no one has relaly told me where to play

You can play on either side but normally a right handed shot will play on the right side and vice versa. There are advantages to doing it the opposite way though for example you can get into a better shooting position on offense.

on the right side you're more open to passes from the other d-man and it's easier to take the puck off the boards. You can also make and receive passes better in transition.

On the left your stick is closer to the middle of the ice so you can generate better shooting lanes and it's a little easier to cut to the middle. Also, your left shoulder is against the boards so you're less likely to get a stick infraction if you smack someone into the boards. I prefer to play my off wing for those reasons.

if you're on the right it's easier to pass up the boards. if you're on the left its easier to do a one timer
