I've a D reg Toyota Corolla and with the lights off the brake lights both work fine. When I put the lights on the tail lights are both on but when I brake one light goes off completely wheras the other works normally. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this and how to fix it? Thanks

Could be an earthing problem. Remove all the rear bulbs and make sure the contacts are clean and also the wiring connectors are clean and secure.

See if your turn signals work. They work on the brake light circuit. Have you changed the bulbs?? If so you may have a wrong bulb. This is a tricky one. If you had a short it would blow a fuse. One light goes off completely, I take ie that means tail and brake light go off ?

You could have your rear and brake light working on a PCB. ( printed circuit board and it is faulty. Take the cove off the bulbs for your rear lights to check if this is so. Fords had a big problem with their rear lights, and it was a PCB malfunction.

Sounds like a bad bulb or socket shorted to another light circuit.

Remove both bulbs and clean and check them and the contacts. That may well do it, unless the light fitting itself is suffering a fault or corrosion.

yes, sounds like you have lost your ground pin; which is also refered too as earth. Clean the contacts as directed and make sure that you have no wires damaged at the lights.
