While I wouldn't actually use a name "after" a place -- unless it held very special meaning, of course -- there are plenty of actual "people" names that happen to be cities, states, etc. that are quite lovely.

Just some examples. In other words, not random place names at all. The cities and states in question were named for people, not vice versa, so not nearly the same as plucking London, Trenton, Denver, Kingston, Alabama or Booklyn off the map and deciding to use it for your child. ;)

Austin, Houston, Alice, Victoria.

They are all Texas cities. Ive actually considered it since my family has a strong Texas heritage and it looks like we will be moving to the east coast next year.

I'd want it to be something to do with my or my husband's heritage. I'm German, he's Scottish. I don't know any Scottish city names off the top of my head, but German cities make good names for boys AND girls-

For boys: Ahlen, Bremen, Altena, Bruck, Duren, Forst, Greven, Hilden, Jessen, Kalbe, Loitz, Marlow, Owen, Raden, Rerik

For girls: Syke, Celle, Daun, Dohna, Elze, Geisa, Halle, Jena, Kahla, Magdala, Naila, Pirna, Rain, Sayda

haha, now you've given me ideas for our baby boy. I like Jessen and Marlow. My husband's going to hate that idea, but he said I get to pick this baby's name because he picked our first son's name.

P.S. I would name Utah Utah because Utah means high place. Asia is a good name. I know two people named Asia. Austina is just a suggestion.

I like Alaska the best as a name, though. Also, Chad for a boy.
