People who support the "Patriot" act are those who live in fear of another 9/11. They think that removing their freedoms (Yes, the 4th amendment is VERY important to our freedoms and it has been done away with via the "Patriot" act) will protect them from attacks. But this very act will bring down our freedoms totally.

I have recently posted disturbing questions on YA about the Freedom of Speech being quieted. People are actually trying to DEFEND the government doing this!?! Do you see anything wrong with this picture?
And before any of you try to say I am not an American..or what ever...I SERVED in the military active duty for 4 years, so I know what it means not to have those freedoms.

What pride is there in the USA when you live in FEAR from what may happen from terrorists? Supporting the "Patriot" act and letting the removal of our freedoms are acts of fear.

Take precautions, but do so WITHIN the Constitution!

GlenB..It is impossible to support the "Patriot" and support the Constitution and not live in fear. You can't have all three...if you think you can, then you obviously don't know what the "Patriot" act does to you and your freedoms.

Jadis...What part of my being in the military don't you get? I support the SECOND as well as ALL of the Constitution.

This also has nothing to do with Democrat/Republican or Liberal and Conservative. They are ALL out for the same goals! Just their description of their label is different. Their goals aren't.

If you have read ANY of my questions, you will see that I do not subscribe to any one party.

Fatpizza...if the government really wanted to do something about them then they would have closed down the borders for a short period of time and totally barred ANYONE from coming across our borders and found out exactly who we DID have here.

They would have had more border security instead of prosecuting the agents who were actually doing their job and then ignoring those who help illegals cross into the US.

What do you do when you have been attacked? You make a barrier to slow them down...but where is the fence they said they would make but never financed it?

Everyone...I just wanted to THANK YOU SO MUCH! For proving my point about living in fear. Sad really that their is no longer any courage to let our institution do their jobs without removing our rights.

Benjamin Franklin stated "Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither". What many of you posters are forgetting is that the President took and oath to defend the constitution against ALL enemies both FOREIGN and DOMESTIC, yet the patriot act flies directly in the face of the constitution.

I have the perfect solution to stop terrorism -- stop screwing around with other people's countries, let them govern themselves they way they best see fit. The founding fathers warned us not to get involved in the affairs of other nations, yet the US has military bases in some 130 countries.

Due to my job, I have to deal with people from all over the world on a constant basis, and one group of people I've had to deal with are muslims. They don't hate us for our freedoms, that's a crock of crap. If you were from a very religious group, would you want the freedoms that we American's are projecting -- teen pregnancies, gangs, school shootings (Columbine), drugs, kids killing each other for their sneakers or because someone "looked" at them in a way they didn't like, promiscuity, songs with filthy lyrics. If you were a conservative religious person would you want those kind of freedoms? What the terrorists are angry about is how they are treated, how we American's exert our authority and might and trample on theirs without any regard to their wishes - that's what their ticked about.

I was not born here, I was born in India and immigrated to the States with my family when I was 4 years old. When I became a citizen, I took an oath to support and defend our constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic and it irks me when I see American's that were born and bred here who are so quick to give up and trash the document that the founding fathers of this great nation so willing gave their lives for. We have young men and women dying in Afghanistan and Iraq dying to defend this constitution, that one you are so quick to dismantle.

I am positive the terrorists are laughing their a**es off knowing that 9/11 didn't inflict near as much damage as the very fact that American's themselves are blindly marching lock step into a police state. I have the privilege of speaking with a former WWII vet (you know, the guys that defeated Hitler) and he very strongly told me that he is seeing the same things happening now in the US that were happening in mid 1930's Germany. And not only him, but one elderly Jewish gentleman that lived through the holocaust, who packed up his bags and moved back to Germany because he sees the same things happening here that were happening in Germany prior to the war.

I am an American by choice, I take very seriously my oath to defend this country and the US Constitution and for those who are so quick to give it up -- shame on you. But, fear not, you will get your wish. Call me crazy and insane, but you mark my words, this nation will one day become an oppressor and will turn on it's citizens. And we will have no one to blame but ourselves. You may call me insane, but when the day comes where you will need to present your "papers" and you realize that you are now living in a police state, remember when I have written here.

Here is the situation we in America find ourselves in. Basically, we have two levels of protection for our country, our citizens and our constitution. One is the Criminal Justice System. The other is the Department of Defense.

Briefly, the events of 9/11 have demonstrated that we face a new kind of threat that falls somewhere between the two. Hijacking an airplane was traditionally a crime and handled by the Criminal Justice System. Flying guided missiles into buildings was traditionally a military action and handled by the DOD. Terrorism crosses the line between the two.

In response we came up with the Patriot Act. I think, and so did the members of Congress from both parties who passed it, it was a good balance.

In the last few election cycles there has been a lot of posturing and condemnation cast upon the President and the Patriot Act as some kind of seriouse breach of constutional protocol and principle. This was primarily nonsense and only done for political reasons, you know, playing to the base.

Attached is an article you may find interesting. I don't know about anyone else but I believe that the Patriot Act is a prudent measure to address the very real threat we are facing. To return to the status quo before this threat to our country is neutralized is just foolhardy. Would you want to board a plane where no one is screened before boarding? Where we do not pass thorough metal detectors or have our luggage X-rayed? That is how it used to be. That is no longer prudent, is it? Same for the Patriot Act.

I do agree that close monitoring of those entrusted with it is important. I believe that is also being taken care of. When abuse by some members of the FBI was discovered they were disiplined and dismissed.

The only fear I have is that a Democrat pansy will be elected and lay down for the Islamic scum that threaten us. Here's a question for you. Exactly what freedoms have you lost? You. Personally. The only ones in danger of losing anything are those who give aid and comfort. (I served 6 years army, just so you know I'm not talking out of turn) As a former service member, did you not ever see those protesters outside the base gates? Don't you remember how they made you feel? How disgusting they were? What you wanted to do to them? But you couldn't because you were too busy going to defend their "rights." No one seems to be sacrificing a damn thing except the military. What are you carrying on about?

LOL the people shouldn't be defending their government. That burden rests with the government.

Instead, the people are responsible for watching and questioning controversial government thought and action. The people are then responsible for reacting harshly to their elected officials. In effect, it will plant fear in the government and cause them to obey the wishes of the people! Of course I speak of the perfect American nation.

Currently the government is winning on this front. The fear is totally reversed!

There is nothing to fear except fear itself! You may or may not want to hear this. I have nothing to worry about, I don't talk to terrorists, If they were to listen to a conversation on my phone they would need just cause. In times like these if a terrorist were about to blow something up.
, I would not want our experts hands tied for hours waiting for a judge to sign for then to listen to a phone conversation!
I do believe after it was all over they would have to show just cause. Those rules are for extreme measures. I personally support the patriot act to keep my family, friends and neighbors safe from terrorist activity. I believe our freedoms are safe. The patriot act takes nothing away from decent citizens. Please inform us as a citizen, what have you lost?Terrorists were thwarted in London due to them being able to listen to the terrorists plans after the subways were bombed.
I can guarantee you this: Terrorism is not through with the U.S.!

What? I don't live in fear. What's wrong with you? You realize there is no case where any Innocent American has been hunted down and persecuted. But plenty of terrorist have....

If it weren't for the Patriot Act we would have to round up all suspicious Arabs and put them in concentration camps like fire woman said.

You said take precautions,,, so what one?

If I got a phone call from a terrorist I would turn them in myself.

Honestly, it sounds like YOU are the one living in fear. And don't forget that the 2nd Amendment is constantly under attack; or is that okay, since it's the left doing it?

I have seen absolutely zero impact on my personal life as a result of the Patriot Act. I also find it amusing - and annoying - that so many of the people who are outraged by the Patriot Act are the same people who want to give the government full access to our health records. I'd far rather they looked at my library account or listened to my phone calls to terrorists states (because I make sooooo many) than my medical records. What could possibly be more personal and private than your medical records?

Edit - And don't forget that it's the LEFT who is pushing to quiet any voice other than their own. Look at how INVITED conservative speakers are treated at universities all over this country. It's a disgrace. And WHICH party wants to revive the Fairness Doctrine? Nothing fair about it at all. If people wanted to listen to liberals whining on the radio about how awful this country is, Airhead America wouldn't have tanked. And for pity's sake - you guys have such a corner on the market as far as the MSM goes. Why can't the conservatives have talk radio? (Which I never listen to, but have become much more interested in after seeing how it puts some of the far-left whack jobs on here into such a frenzy....)

Edit - but you also can not talk about your rights being infringed on without talking about the assault on the 2nd Amendment, which has been going on for decades. Sorry for lumping you into the far-left category. But honestly - I don't think we can even begin to debate the erosion of our rights without talking about the 2nd.

Edit AGAIN - what do you mean, we proved your point? Where is the fear in my response? I'm not at all worried about my guns - but I can't deny the threat is there, either. Heck, I don't worry about getting in a car accident, either, which is far more likely than the government paying any attention to my activities.

Some regard "Patriotism" as being proud of living in fear, and attacking other democratic countries, of the "same religion" of the attacker, in order to have good relationship with Islamic dictatorships such as Saudi Arabia.

I agree that the Patriot Act is a violation of the Constitution! I never got to vote on it and I do feel that our rights are being damaged. I have signed many petitions and written to Congress about this very matter. I can't help but think: "What next????"
It sickens me that peoiple trivialize this matter. These are the foundations of our country being chiseled away; The TRUE FREEDOM that our forefathers created and died for!! It is a disgrace, and I hope we get back on track.
The people who say "freedom isn't free", should add to that, "Freedom isn't FREE, either!" This is a heated debate, but I hold my ground on it, as you do.

Americans do not deserve American freedom and special civil rights! We need to return to a 19th century America! Why can't liberals see that the only way to be SAFE and save America is to limit rights to property owning white males (and illegal Mexicans)!?!
