Their talents were very different so it's hard to compare the two. Bell was much more of a scientist than Edison was, while Edison's greatest gifts were for organization and promotion.

It's hard to determine this. In general, Bell was luckier that his major invention, the telephone, survived some messy patent challanges and that he founded "Ma Bell". Edison was more of a promoter, and started the prototype of a modern scientific "think tank". However, he blew it on electricity when he opted for DC transmission. AC transmission was far better for a large network, and became the method used today. Yet,quite a few companies still have "Edison" in their name. ...
