My husband and I both love these names. We're in the middle though. The middle name will be Timothy (his middle name and his father's name). The names are Talon or Aiden. I think i'm leaning toward Talon but i'm not sure.

I would have to say Aiden Timothy (however I prefer the traditional spelling, Aidan). Any of the -en or -an names are quite popular right now, so if you're looking for something unique, Aiden (however you choose to spell it) may not be the choice for you.

As far as Talon (or even Talan), I don't care for the "T" repeating itself in Talon Timothy. I realize it's his middle name, but it reminds me of Peter Piper...it sounds like we're getting to recite a Talon Timothy tongue twister.

I would also have to agree with some of the others, when I hear the name Talon I think of a bird preparing to kill. I know some think it's a "cool" name, but I'm sure you wouldn't name your child any other bird-like names such Vulture or Crow. Talon, to me, falls in that same category.

Definitely go with Aiden Timothy. Talon just gives me the image of a big ugly bird claw.

Talon literally means "the claw of a bird of prey." Their actual means of tearing the flesh off their game. I honestly cannot understand the appeal, and have to assume parents using it don't realize it's such a common, known word. People do know a talon is a bird's instrument of killing. How is that a well-thought-out name for a child? So really, it just comes across like the parents thought it a "cool" jumble of letters/sounds and were completely ignorant of the word's obvious meaning. I'm not being purposefully rude, by the way ... I just have never understood this, so I'm baffled whenever I see it considered.

Aidan is a fine name, when spelled properly, but a very common choice at the moment. If it won't bother you that he will share his name with several classmates, co-workers, etc. all through life -- not to mention dozens more with suspiciously similar rhyming variants (Braden, Caden, Dreydon, Graydon, Hayden, Jadon, etc.) -- by all means, use it. It's a classic choice, after all. Just no longer unique or unexpected by any stretch.

I don't care for either of them, to be honest. Talon Timothy is waaay too many T's, and Talon is like naming a kid Claw. So silly sounding. Aiden is really nice, but hyperpopular. I would avoid it like the plague; same with Haydn, Jaden, Kayden, Braden, Zayden, or any of that stuff.

Why don't you think about Aaron, Avram, Agustus, Alden, Allastair, Avery, Tallis, Taliesin, Thaddeus, or Tierney? These are more unusual than Aiden, but not as odd as Talon. I think Tierney and Taliesin are long enough they don't sound really weird with Timothy.

Talon Timothy has too much alliteration. I prefer Aiden Timothy.

In reference to comments about spelling Aiden properly, both "Aiden" and "Aidan" are common spellings of the name.

"Aidan" was ranked #44 in the U.S. for boy names in 2006. "Aiden" was ranked #30. Therefore, "Aiden" is actually the more common spelling in the U.S.

Congratulations on the new baby and best wishes to you and your family!

Aiden beause the Talon Timothy (T on T) thing is too much! It needs a vowel to begin since the middle isn't just sounds better.
