I thought modern cash registers did that for you? I've given people change plus a few pennies so I wouldn't have to have additional pennies weighting down my pocket and they are dumbfounded.

Practice, practice, practice.

First you need to know how to count. If someone give you a $20 and the bill is $15.25 then count up from the 15.25 to 20 so 15.25 + .25 + .25 +.25 = 16 then by ones 16 + 4 = 20. This is 2nd grade math dude. This is sad that someone with a job can't do simple 2nd grade math.

presuming your using GBP just count your way up in change for example if the cost is £15.25 and they gave you £20.00
get 5p to make it £15.30
20p to make £15.50
50p to make £16.00
then £4 to make £20.00
or get an electronic till or calculator and work it out that way.
