Doesn't George always say he will be fired? Like last year when they said he was fired and Lou Pinella took his spot, and it was false. Who thinks it is true this time? Who gets Torre's job Don Mattingly or Joe Girardi? I'd go with Girardi.

yes, Torre is gone, and here is the reason

First, he hasnt made it past the first round in how many years?
second, he is way too easy going, yea, i said it!

look, if Billy Martin was still alive i bet he would be on hs 900th stint as a yankees manager because of his take no b.s style. What they need to do is hire Girardi who is almost the same as martin, and start revamping the whole line up. First person i would get rid of is A rod. He really dont give 2 craps about a team, he's all about the $$.Second, pitching, keep the younger plsyers, Joba Chamberlan, Ian Kennedy will defenitly be starters next year, screw Clemens and Mussina. Pettit maybe and Wang but its time to go to the minors for good pitching no doubt. After you fire A rod you got betemit for 3rd base, get rid of Giambi( god please forgive me) and give the job to Duncan, Metcavich is a good backup for first base, then you got Cano , Damon, Abreu, matsui in the outfield, Keep jeter and posada for sure, Molina as the backup catcher and there you have it. Thats my opinion, i think that team alone has a fighting chance next year!

It's most certainly shaping up to be that way. Notice Torre's contract wasn't extended at the end of last season. This year was a test and if the Yanks didn't make the World Series Torre was to be fired. Looks like we're barely gonna get out of the Division Series if we do get out. I think Girardi should get the position also because he has experience and he's a proven leader from his years on the Yankee squad.

Edit: Although Joe wasn't responsible for our lack of quality pitching start for game 1 he should have started Andy Pettite for that game instead instead of Chien Ming simply because Wang's sinkers were too high due to the long rest. Joe Torre could have put us in a better position to win that game by leaving Wang to start game 3 at home.

Game 1: Andy (better chance to win game 1)
Game 2: Phil Hughes or Moose (would be our game where we could afford to lose so why not)
Game 3: Chien Ming Wang
Game 4: Roger Clemens
Game 5: Andy Pettitte

I will only accept Joe Torre being thrown overboard if he is attached to Brian Cashman at the wrists and ankles This season Torre probably did the best managing job of his career by bringing the Yankees back from the dead and almost winning the division .
It's not Torre's fault that Cashman went out and got star players who can rack up gaudy numbers during the regular season but choke in the clutch nor is it Torre's fault that Cashman couldn't get him a half decent pitching staff .
If the Yankees lose to the Indians I do think that Torre will be fired. I do think that Girardi will replace him and unless Cashman pulls his head out of his azz and gets rid of some of the deadbeats on this team ,I don't think that it will make any difference.

I think this time George means it and it has been 7 years if they do not make it to the Series . Girardi or Mattingly would be fine but I believe George has that figured out right now.

OH it's 100% true,,,Joe almost lost his job in May! Steinbrenner decided to just ride with Joe through the rest of this yr! But now George has had it! It's one thing not to win a WS,but not being able to get past the 1st round in a playoff is really getting tiring to George! He's had it! And i don't blame him! Girardi will be our next manager!

Torre did a good job of bringing his team back from the bottom of the Division to win the Wildcard. There's nothing he or any other manager could have done against Indians pitching in the last 2 games. He can't go out there and bat for A-Rod or Jeter. It's not his fault.

Not that anyone would ever say they want to lose, but I wonder if somewhere in the back of Torre's mind he's ready for this drama in his life to be over. Working for someone like George Steinbrenner has to put an extra 10 years on someone's life. Go Indians & just get the Yankees out of the playoffs.

A lot of people say that Torre will be fired and it will be Girardi. After the way how he treated black players and white players on his team, he'll will be fired this season.

This is why I hate George Steinbrenner.

Do you think it's Joe Torre's fault that A Rod in the playoffs for his career is 4 for 47? Is Joe Torre the one hanging curve balls over the plate, or loading the bases for Travis Hafner?

NO!

As much as I hate the Yankees, Joe Torre is an outstanding manager.

If anyone should get fired it should be Brian Cashman, for not spending the money on a starting rotation.

Mattingly would be my choice.

Girardi is too young to handle those egos in the lineup.
