It is mostly young people committing these crimes. It is sad to see 19 and 20 year old's die because someone has no self control but owns a gun. A 14 year old killed a 60 year old man for money. Don't these kids see the consequences of what they are doing?

D.C. had a horribly high crime rate in the 90's and then it went down - now it is going back up again. I live in Northern Virginia in a neighborhood where the crime rate is quite low but in certain nooks and crannies of Virginia it is worsening...rapes and murders. Scares the jebeebies outta me!

Yes, most of the crime in our areas are perpetrated by young folk....why they have so little reverence for life; seem unafraid of going to jail; and have absolutely no social skills in settling differences I do not know.

Do we go back, yet again, to thinking it all begins in the home where children should be taught appropriate behavior? - or is it a mixture of that and our violent loving society today? [e.g., movies, video games, TV etc]

the area where I am had a blurb the other day about an increase in domestic violence, it probably isn't an increase but is much easier to report now than it used to be. What I have noticed is young parents killing babies--makes me sick. There was a senseless mess here a few weeks back 3 young men sitting on a porch talking and a guy came up and spoke to them for a few minutes and came back with a mask on and a gun and shot all 3 of them--two are hurt really bad and one was just shot in the shoulder but can't sleep because of it. The 3 young men were all students at the same college here and not even drinking. Too many to mention, but increases yes--consequences, not much insight there until it is over and done.

The young people committing these crimes have no conscience. A young man here was swarmed by 5-6 youths and killed him while he was waiting for a bus to go to work. He was a gr A student who wanted to be an engineer. What a waste. These things are becoming all too common . Our court system is so far behind that when these creeps are in jail too long waiting for a court case, they release them and drop the charges. This is not justice.

Crime rates fluctuate in my area Homicide is, for the most part, a crime where both victim and assailant are on intimate terms of one form or another. My area is also one which permits "open carry" of weapons. If one is an adult and does not have a criminal record or a record of mental health hospitalization, one can purchase a weapon and strap it on the hip.
I myself own a hand gun. And I do wear it when going into certain parts of the community where street anarchy seems to be the order of the day. In 25 years I have had to draw it out of its holster on only three occasions. Each time I did so to avert the commission of a crime. In two of those cases the intended victim was me. I never had to fire.
I live in a county which is larger in land area than the State of New Jersey or the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I can't expect a quick enough response from law enforcement if I'm in a situation where my life and limb are in peril or that of another person. And I am perfectly able to neutralize the threat posed in such a situation. I know not only how to shoot, but when not to shoot.

This happens nearly every day in Australia, and the gangs are getting worse too. There was a report that a family went out and there 26 year old was at home doing school work. A gang bashed their way in, drank all the booze, she hid in a cupboard, but they found her, ans bashed her black and blue. Young adults have also been beaten to death here. And New Zealand are having a terrible problem with gangs. Read Matthew 24. It's all happening. And what the heck are their parents doing? Older people are prime targets. Society is out of hand, and these are the future generation.

We don't see the crimes being committed by teens here. We
see an over abundance of Meth Heads, and Latinos'. It used
to be that the blacks were the biggest crime doers'. But except for gang related crimes, individually we don't see as
much of that. Meth heads are out to make any score to feed
their habits. People break in and steal anything of value they
can sell for cash. We also have gangs among the Latinos
and the Russians, and Asians. Not so much here in my town,
but across the river in the big city. It's gotten so bad, that we
don't even like to leave our apt. for fear we'll be ripped off
by the time we get home. Luckily tho, neighbors watch out
for each other.

Slk, it is so ironic that you ask this question right now. As I am responding, I am just finding out about a shooting spree within an hour of me that has left 6 young people dead. And this is in Crandon, a small town of fewer than 2,500 people. You always think it's going to happen somewhere else, but when it happens in your backyard it really hits home. I have seen more crime lately, but nothing this violent!

The demographics of my town
are changing rapidly...from a
slow and easy rural town.
the tops of our hills have been
logged off and leveled and there are homes being built
with no solid foundations and
the winter rains are coming.
These homes will sell for
about .5mil and up. they have
no yard. I have no idea who
they will find to buy them as
our employment rate is up
high now.
We are being invaded with
immigrants from the south,
both legal and illegal.
the gang and drug lords are
moving with them. there are
some nice latino families but
the bad ones make it hell
for everyone. the next few
years will tell who will win in
this town. We had our first
graffiti in town last week and
on a church which is right
in front of our apartments.
These problems are the reason why I left L.A. in 1972.
I'm too old to want to move
now.

The crime rate has increased with the increased housing. Our population is 25% higher than it was 11 years ago.

Yes, and it's MOSTLY YBM's (Young Black Males) doing the crimes. AND it's against other blacks! (Watch, some nimrod will call me an ignorant, bigoted racist!) Not only that, but innocent people are wounded or killed because of their shooting at each other. A 3 year old was killed in her crib when a bullet came through the wall that was meant for someone else. A 73 year old grandmother was shot and seriously wounded by some stupid moron with a gun who thought he was MR BAD AS.S. Stupid is as stupid does.
One YBM pulled a gun on a white cop. The white cop shot the KID and it blew up into a WHITE/BLACK thing with the cop being the 'bad guy' ! What crap!
Ok nimrods...go ahead....scream "YOU IGNORANT BIGOTED RACIST"! Like I give a rat's hind parts.
