900 miles?
Leave the filter alone.

If you are sure that is the problem, replace the gasket and oil drain plug. Save the oil and return it to the engine when you have made the repair. Do not over tighten the bolts in the oil pan as the gasket is probably cork and compresses very easily. That should solve your problem unless the oil leak is coming from the rear main bearing seal.

for that filter only having 900 miles on it re-useing it wont hurt, but for the cost of filters these days replacing wont cost you that much, although i think that k@n filter cost a bit more right? if im right hell ya re-use man!!just pull it off to dump the old oil and put it right back on. let the filter sit with the opening facing down for a while so most of the old oil has a chance to drip out.

if it has been only 900 miles i see no reason why you cannot use the same oil and oil filter again as long as you do not damage the oil filter trying to get it off

The least of your problems here is the oil filter. You should probably just change it since you will be changing the oil anyway.
