Just recently in the computer/techno section they have been offering an ipod or cell phone or something for points. But pretty much here I don't think the true boomers and seniors care a flip about points. It is the communication with intelligent friends that keeps me coming back. Adding a dash of imagination adds to the fun.

Points? Who Cares?

It's the sport of helping others and participation that makes it worthwhile. And it does have to be worthwhile or it'll be a waste of time. I guess that's the competitive edge.

Most of us don't spend our whole days and nights on here because there's more to life. This is just a small part of it.
And, I love the fact that there are so many intellectual (wise) and funny answers.

The people are worth far more than points!

Click YOUR points and it takes you to the site that tells you what you can get for points. Actually, if you don't get points, you can't ask questions..after you use up the first free 100 they give you. I admire ,,in a way..people with lots of points...shows their dedication to YA. But, I wonder if they're "taking care of business" at home..having a "normal" life. I think the points aren't as important as the quality of your answer. This isn't the only category on YA,ya know! lol And, there are people who want and need quality answers. People with lots of points have probably gained a lot of information from reading other questions and researching for others etc. (at least that's what I do). I've learned SO MUCH from trying to help others..esp. on the Mental Health category...on which I'm a TC (so far) I think YA is a WONDERFUL place!! ...a "living encyclopedia"..and MUCH more interesting than the book kind! I like having more points and being able to have more input. And I like gaining the knowledge I've gained on here...because the next questioner might be the one who needs it. Points aren't really about you...they're about the people you're trying to help. Kind of like a dr. having his "credentials" in his office..our points etc. are our "credentials" of sorts. Hope this gives more meaning to points. (They're not just "numbers".)

No dear. It is a generation gap thing. Young people have to have something to gloat about to their friends. Points don't mean anything to us because we either just exchange views or learn new things or wonder about other things. Kids want more points so they can say they are smarter or dumber or something that has to do with peer pressure. I don't really remember too much peer pressure when I was a kid, but it seems to be a big thing to them today. I wouldn't worry about it. 50 years from now if they have something like this site they will probably be lying about what they were like as kids so that they don't feel too bad about themselves for being the idiots they are today.

There is no set points to get a prize or anything I know of. This link is what I used when I started, that explains the points and levels (bottom of the page). Green stamps aren't a bad idea though. lol

I am a bit obcessive and just competetive enough to care about the points...even though I know that they are worth absolutely nothing....I think it has to do more with a personality type paired with the way society trains us to respond...if someone tells me that there is a prize then...well....I'll go for it....Pavlovian,\I know but that is how our society has trained us to be...whether we like it or not...that's why cafeterias offer "all you can eat" when most of us can not even eat the regular restaurant portion....or "two-fors" when we don't even want the one....something for nothing...carrot at the end of the stick....just tell me I can get something and I'll strive for it even if I don't want it....imho

true true..alot of people have no life..and its mostly bragging rights. Just like a video game people can become obsessed with the numbers. Some do..and some don't. Points are for not reason

I don't see them doing anything. Yahoo did send me a water bottle once but I saw the free offer and ordered it. I also don't see free access to anything. Just a way of saying-hmmm, do ya spend yer time in answers. Not missin' a thing lady.

Points and levels are the incentive for the competitive among us,you get squat for the points except the privilege to ask and answer and star more questions.

I think the secret is feeling that you just might be helping some one by sharing your thoughts.

It is a little ego booster to me when I do get a "Best answer" rating.
