My car was running fine then the next morning it wouldn't start. I jump started it and it ran fine, I turned it off and tried to turn it back on immediately and it made a clicking sound, but wouldn't turn on. Does this sound like the battery needs to be replaced or do you think it's the alternator? Thanks!

It probably is the battery. Since the engine runs with a jump start that indicates the alternator is working. The alternator will supply power to the engine without a battery.

Apparently your battery was discharged. It started when connected with another battery but any alternator will require at least 10 to 20 minutes of engine running to feed enough life in the battery to be able to activate the self starter. The self starter requires heavy current to move the flywheel of the engine.Since you did not run the engine for enough time and did not let the alternator to do its work, it cannot be said that it is out of order. It so appears that the battery needs to be replaced.

It could be several things---Is there corrosion on the post, are the cables tight and in good shape. Also your starter may be going bad.

Original battery?
If so, it's due for replacement anyway.
