Why didn't Eisenhower garner enough respect of FDR and Truman to make him want to be a Democrat?

dude is right. Ike could have gone either way. Both parties wanted him as their nominee and he was basically party neutral. I guess the republicans just got there first. Or maybe he found he had a little more in common with them than the democrats. Why does it matter? he was a pretty good president.

Uh, people don't suddenly select their party at the time they became President.

Eisenhower had a long military career, dating pack to just after WW I if I remember correctly. This is long before FDR was President. I am sure his political affiliations were developed as a young man, just like everyone else.

Eisenhower was basically apolitical, he could care less either way, the republicans offered him the nomination because he was a war hero that could win
