We wanted the same thing done. Ask the people who installed your carpet they have a binding that they can stitch around the edge.

Go to a carpet store and buy some iron on tape binding;
While there ask the price they would charge to bind it.
Could be less than you think, and a lot less work.

Take it to a carpet place and ask them to have it bound. Usually costs about $1 per foot.
