Perimeter is a length, it's one-dimensional so you'll measure it in meters or cm.
Area is two-dimensional so it's measured in m^2 or cm^2. Note that if you make the sides of a square 5 times as big then the area is increased by a factor of 25 = 5^2
Volume is three-dimensional so it's measured in m^3 or whatever^3. If you make the sides of a cube 5 times as big, then the volume is increased by a factor of 125 = 5^3.

the units are actually really easy to figure out. OK a perimeter is found by just adding up the sides right? we'll use cm for this example so the unit would be cm.
area is found by multiplying the length times the height. example 10cm x 10 cm = 100cm^2 basically you are not only multiplying the numbers, but the units as well. so cm x cm is cm squared. See where this is going?
Volume is length x width x height or cm x cm x cm. thus the unit for volume would be cm^3.

The difference in units is caused by the different number of dimensions involved.
Perimeter is a one-dimensional or linear measurement of length, so it gets ordinary units such as feet or meters.
Area is two-dimensional so it needs other units, such as square feet, square meters, acres or hectares. An acre is 43,560 square feet, but mentally visualizing a farm field as 217,800 square feet is more difficult that saying it is a five-acre field. A hectare is 10,000 square meters.
Volume is three dimensional or cubic, so it gets cubic units, which may be the expected cubic feet or cubic meters or special cubic units such as the liter or gallon.

n getting the perimiter the unit is only "m" if it is meter when it is are, it is already squared and when it is volume it is already cube. for exanlpe the gating the perimiter of a rectangle, the formula is 2l + 2w, so if l is 1m and w is 2m. meter plus meter is meter so the unit of perimeter is not raised to any power. gez??????
