What makes a religion false is the fact that the basis for it is not reality. Now there are different interpretations of experiential things that happen. As an example:
People who seem to remember past lives. Hindus and new age people say they lived before and that is why they remember these so called events.
Another answer is that there is a spiritual world surrounding us with spirits that impress things into our minds. By doing this they can give us false evidence appearing real.
Do you understand this.?
Now some religions were started on purpose for personal gain and power.
Islam being the most successful fraud of all. Mormons runs a close second.
Their leaders share a common trait. Both were well known womanizers. Muhammad even stooped to the depths of marrying a six year old and started having sex with her at nine years old... now what country would not have him in jail?
Joseph Smith founder of the Mormons had sex with other mens wives and then was hanged by an angry mob for his immoral acts. It is interesting that they both practiced and promoted many wives. Both claimed an angel spoke to them.
I think if you look at the beliefs and origins of any religion you will soon figure out what is real and what is not.
Stop looking at what they teach as the first investigation. Look and the character of the leaders and founders.
Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. Winston Churchill

ANY religion other than Christianity is false. The "criteria" defining what is and is not false religion were established by our Creator. They are eternal and unchangeable.

Period.

No apologies. No waffling. No p.c. wishy-washy, lukewarm, all-paths-lead-to-God nonsense.

One triune God (i.e., Jesus, God, Holy Spirit). One path to heaven (admitting your imperfection and accepting Jesus' freely offered gift of salvation). Eternal consequences for every human being regarding their choice to accept or reject that gift.

Find that offensive?

Deal with it.

The TRUTH can be a rude awakening for some. But a necessary one.

What you do with that TRUTH is up to you.

It is so important to read the Word of God, the Bible, because God speaks of the importance of knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Proverbs 2:6, "For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."

Ephesians 1:17, "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him."

Why is this so important to God that we have these qualities? Because He knows that satan will be present on earth "to steal, and to kill, and to destroy" John 10:10. One of the ways satan will do this is to present false religions to deceive not only the unsaved but most importantly the saved!! This is a game for satan, to see if he can win souls from God. If we do not fill ourselves with God's Spirit, by reading His Word, then we will be ignorant and submit to satan's trap.

We know one of the obvious criteria that makes a religion false is the denial of Jesus Christ and that He died and resurrected (John 3:16) and the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Ephesians 4:4, "There is one body, and one Spirit"; Ephesians 4:5, "One Lord, one faith, one baptism". The list can go on and on of what makes a religion false. The botton line is that if a religion does not follow the Word of God it is a false religion!

-Amen-

Newness. I'd be suspicious of something just thought up today.
Silliness. Church of the Unholy Croissant, for example.
When it is primarily a business venture. I won't mention which fall into this category. You think about it for a couple of minutes.
C. :)!!

hypocrisy. which is found in almost all religions. im not pointing to any religion in particular but almost all of them have a sense of corruption somewhere. after all, they were all founded, spread or based on simply humans and humans as a whole are relatively stupid, corrupt, dishonest beings. therefore its impossible to have something flawless and true that is based around us humans. another aspect of religion that can make it false is the forcefulness of its followers. who honestly wants to have someone in their face telling them that an eternal burning in hell awaits their soul if they do not accept the truth? sorry.. not i said the fly.

My opinion is: A religion is supposed to be supportive of its parishoners. Helping them in whatever way they need. Advice, money,etc...
That is the purpose of it.
If it does not do those things, it is based on what you'd call false.
