No kidding? Well, congrats to your town. The ECHL is just under the AHL which is just under the NHL, so you'll probably meet some future NHLers. And when they finally do make it, you can say that you played video games/golf/pool/hung out at a bar with that guy without someone yelling "BS!!"

Great fun and fast hockey. More fighting, fans closer to the action. Our Toledo franchise is on hold until '09 when the new arena is completed, so we have to wait. Clubs have cool promotions like "skate with the team" days. Watching the Toledo Storm has been very exciting, its been an economical way to familiarize my son with the sport. ECHL rocks. OHL is pretty good too, I attend several Saginaw Spirit games as well, and the juniors really throw down, Congratulations to you and your city.

Edit: What 288 said is dead on the money, a
big attraction at Mutz in Toledo is hanging out, chillin' with the Storm players.

The ECHL is a great league. As the others have already stated, the skill level is a couple of notches below the NHL, it is the AA level of their minor league system. You will get an opportunity to see skilled, younger, scrappier players. Many have NHL potential and a few of them will someday reach the NHL. Combine that with the fact that it is very affordable and you have a great night out.

The ECHL is the best, i like it even more than the NHL, you better hope your team never plays the Las Vegas Wranglers, because we will hella own you

Here are a couple rules for new ECHL fans:

It's entertaining. If you enjoy hockey, you'll enjoy the ECHL. Great hockey at great prices. A little chippier than the NHL, but well worth it.

I have gone to see the Florida Everblades who play in the ECHL a bunch of times. The games are always entertaining. You never know what you will see. They had a coach go nuts at one of the games I went to. He even walked out to center ice flipping out. I've seen a goalie skate to center with the puck while dekeing a few players. It's always a good time.

Skill level isn't as good as the NHL obviously, but its still a good time. Tickets are cheap, you get good seats, and the fights are just a tad rougher.
