babe i'm five foot even and i'm perfectly fine with it!
we'll never have to look for guys who are taller than us and we're cute. just make sure you eat right and are not overweight or anything, its all about proportion!
don't shop for clothes that make you look taller because your wardrobe will begin to be all the same stuff.
just buy what looks good on you!
hope this helps ;)

I think the best way to look taler is to wear long-ish shirts (like those tunic styles), so the end of the shirt hits just above your hip. Of course, fitted flare pants look awesome. I'd stay away from skinny jeans, because they can taper at the bottom and make you look like a short little pear. =(
And obviously, heels work, but I don't know how often they'll be convenient.
And fitted long sleeve shirts can elongate your arms and torso, plus make them look skinnier. ;)

If you're quite slim then wear a long frock, something with a high waist that places it just below your bust. Keep it fairly plain and have a loose narrow belt - one of those non-functional jeweled things would do.
If you're not in a 'ball gown' mood then avoid hoops (horizontal stipes) or fussy patterns (such as those ghasty sequins or beaded patterns so beloved of television chopping channels or craft shops.
Wear your hair long. Short hair may suit your face but it also puts a visual 'cap' to your height. Long hair sort of 'fades' into your height. If you're being formal then add a tiara.
Think tall. It may seem daft but if you always consider yourself a dwarf then you'll tend to slouch and sag.

depends on how tall you are
if you are under 5'9", i would throw away the capri's if you own any, they make short people look shorter and stumpier.
pants to the ground with a 2" heel will elongate your body and give the appearance of being taller.
wearing all black or all white will also make you look taller - good luck!

dont wear baggy pants. it just makes you look wider. hmm... try skinny jeans. im not sure if it will make you look taller, but try it. dont wear colorful pants (like red, pink, orange) i dont think blue will be a problem unless its like bright blue. and feel free to wear green or khaki. maybe try wearing black?? its pretty difficult to make yourself seem taller. im trying to help, but ive never had this problem because im only like 13 and 5'7. you could just go for the petite look if your not really really short. sorry i couldnt help much, but the easiest thing to suggest is heels, which I see youve already thought of.
oh, and i dont think leggings would be a good idea, because if your thin, that will most likely make you look petite, not tall. and maybe try those long t-shirts if you dont mind looking like your torso is longer than your legs ( i know that sounds bad, but it wont make you look like a freak or anything, just try it. )

If you have short legs in proportion to your body, wearing pants can bring attention to its length; wearing skirts instead can make your legs appear longer. Sometimes, shirts and tops that are too long can make your upper body appear longer that it is, which gives off the illusion that you have short legs.... so avoid those as well. The key is to make your legs appear longer than your body length by proportion, since that gives the illusion that you are tall. Also, slim fitting clothes tends to pull your body upwards by appearance, especially if you're thin. Baggy clothes will make your body appear wider, which gives the illusion of being short.

Wear straight cut jeans, pencil skirt knee lenght, straight cut dress, A-lined dress ( No Gatthered ) will help. Also don't wear dress that cut in the waist lined or below breast lined, which makes you look even shorter. Choose tiny verticlal lined fabric not horizontal.

Hahahaha!!!! i'm indian, so i realised you were a male, but wheni i read the "i'm a straight guy" thing, it got me cracking up! anyways, try converse (high tops are the converse which are a 2-3 inches above your ankle), and get nice graphic tees. You could also try wearing a tee-shirt over a collared shirt, but make sure its not too hot outside or you'll melt.

Wear pointed toe shoes with a hill under long jeans this will make you legs look longer. keep a good posture and stand tall.
Never wear cropped trousers with flats. This will always make you look short.
