You need to soak it for at least 2 weeks in water in a bucket that it get water locked, if you don't do that your water will get discolored as well as the wood won't stay on the bottom

Hope that helps
Good luck

Soaking for a couple of weeks sometimes works depending on the type of driftwood. I would recommend this anyway as it helps keep the tannin in the wood from discoloring your water. If soaking doesn't help you will probably have to anchor it by either gluing it (with aquarium safe glue) to an aquarium safe rock or gluing or screwing (with aquarium safe screws) it to a piece of plexiglass and covering the plexiglass with aquarium gravel. If your tank is empty and you don't intent do move the wood you can also glue it to the bottom of the tank.

You can tie fish safe weights to it using nylon line. These weights are usually a doughnut shape and made with ceramic. Try not to use metal wire or lead weights as these can leach harmful toxins into your water. After a while, the wood will become waterlogged and stay down on its own. I have also tied wood to a clean clay flowerpot, which is real cheap and stays down nicely. Plus the pots provide nice homes for smaller fish, who may also turn these pots into homes for their fry.

Soaking the driftwood in a bucket of water for one to two weeks will definitely solve your problem. And what someone mentioned above about it solving the problem of water discoloration in the tank is true also. As you see the water darken in your bucket, drain and replace it. Good luck and enjoy your tank.

You can either soak it until it's waterlogged enough to sink or you can attach it to a piece of slate, or put a bunch of rocks on top of it if it's shaped right for you to do that.

Anchor it with thin wire and weights. Make sure it is nothing that will harm the fish.
