woh do i get my drift wood to stay down in my fish tank?

Soaking it won't help that only removes the tannings, you should bury most of the drift wood into the gravel anchoring it, or tie a rock to it. Mostly drift wood should be able to stay on the bottom by itself.

Just soak it in water in a bucket for at least 2 weeks, then put it into your tank

fix it to a rock or piece of slate with aquarium sealer
