We have pets and kids and a lot of wood floors. We currently have a cannister vacuum, but its a pain to store and tough to lug around. We are looking for a high quality, light upright with a small head to get into corners and tight spots. Any advice? Please help! Thanks,

I too have kids and pets. My daughter was stage 4 chronic lung disease (she passed on labor day) and was allergic to just about every thing so I had to vacuum at least once a day.I also have a now 16 month old-10 birds and 2 dogs. And wood floors as well as carpet and tile. I used Dyson and it works as they claim however as soon as the warranty ran out the engine died and to replace the engine was just as much as a new Dyson! I then bought the Dirt Devil bagless VISION and I have nothing to complain about its great and has good on board attachments with great suction. Only down fall in my opinion and its not big of a deal is in my home the 2 filters, air diffuser and canister has to be cleaned at least once a week. And its light weight I bought mine at walmart for 120 dollars, Ive seen cheapers Vacs there but liked the over all appearance and yes name brand of the one I bought and will NEVER go back to dyson. Dirt Devil also has a vac called "power streak" its professional grade. But the one I have is great for pets too. Check out the dirt devil website I'll post it below

I have seen the H2O vac on TV and wonder is it worth all the hype?

Any upright will do the job. My $35 model has lasted nearly 20 years, and is still going strong! If the wood is light colored, make sure to get one with rubber wheels, as plastic ones might cause streaks. If you can't find one with rubber wheels, wrap the outer edges (where the wheels contact the floor) with duct tape (you may need to trim the tape to fit). For corners and tight or narrow spots, your cannister would probably be best, assuming it comes with a variety of attachments; if not, add such attachments to your upright's wish-list (some have them, some don't!).

Hell no it is not strange, lots of the time it gets up greater dirt than a brush and alot of vacuums are actual made to hoover wood and tile flooring, it rather is why they may well be adjusted so low to the floor!!!
