You will need a permit and a rod licence to fish most rivers in the UK

You will need a rod licence for fishing in Engalnd & Wales. Get one at the post office. No licence needed in Scotland but most waters require a local permit. Hope this helps.

In most areas you need to pay for a fishing license. It is a great money maker for the authorities and they would not miss an opportunity to collect from you.

The only exceptions seem to be for kids (and the cutoff number for age varies with the area).

The rules that govern fishing change from state to state. You would need to contact your local "State board of game and wildlife" or "Wildlife and Conservation" which should be available on the individual states web page. (ex: www.pa.org)

Most states allow you to fish permit free on your own property but that too can vary.

Have fun fishing.

You need a fishing liscence, just like if you were going hunting. You can get them at most sporting stores, and even walmart.
If you get caught by a game warden without a fishing liscence, you could get a fine even if you haven't caught any fish.
