Here are a few that should be kept on hand before you need them in an emergency:
(This is from my Aquarium Disease Prevention Article; for futher reading please visit: http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Disease.html )
• Methylene Bluefor a medicated bath (see link below for instructions)
• Pimafix; an excellent herbal gram negative anti bacterial and anti fungal. Melafix is the cousin treatment to Pimafix which is more gram positive and generally less effective, however it is still useful to have on hand to combine with Pimafix or to treat just by itself usually in the case of fish injuries or ulcers, especially in pond fish
• Medicated Wonder Shells; excellent for prevention of many external parasites such as ich and velvet (especially when introducing new fish), also useful for fungus. These also come in bowl size
• Quick Cure; one of the strongest anti parasitic treatments available ( ParaGuard makes an excellent substitute for more sensitive fish).
• Kanamycin ( Kanaplex); a very effective gram negative antibiotic, can be combined with Nitrofurazone or Metronidazole
• Metronidazole; unique anti parasite (including internal) and bacterial properties.
• Nirofurazone; excellent for lower ph applications and more gram positive bacteria application.
• Sodium Chloride (plain salt) and Epsom Salts; Sodium chloride will help with osmotic function in your display aquarium and Epsom salts (best used in a hospital tank) are also helpful for improving osmotic function (in diseases such as Dropsy.
I also strongly recommend reading this article about Aquarium medications in general so that you can make a good decision when choosing a medication (as the list above is far from a complete inventory to cover ever posssible problem!). Also it should be noted that most aquatic bacterial infections are gram negative, so these should be your primary anti bacterial treatments to consider first.

I hope this gives you a good place to start.

I have ick treatment, aquarium salt, algae control, some random pH stuff, and a liquid that takes care of all the levels in the aquarium. Personally i dont like to get all these things but i have had fish for a long time and had to buy these items. I would just wait till something happens, then look it up, then go by the best medicine you can for the injury.
Hope that Helps âº

Medicine wish is keep a tetra safe ick treatment (not all treatments are safe for tetras because they are more sensitive to the medicines used to treat ick that other fish) and aquarium salt on hand at all time. Other stuff you will rarely if ever need and I just buy it as needed.

I have sea salt, Stress Coat, Maracyn 2 and Melafix. That covers me in case of external damage, internal and external infections, columnaris, fin rot and any sudden ich outbreak. Those are the most common problems. If anything else happens I'll just isolate the fish and add salt and stress coat and have to get to the store for a more specific med.
I don't add salt to any tanks with snails in, of course. There's not much you can do for a sick snail anyways, except isolate, keep the water very clean and make sure it's getting enough calcium and food.

I keep aqarium salt, tea tree oil (melafix), formalin, & cupric sulfate, I also have a few tabs of marycn 2 that was left over from a previous treatment, and amaquel in case the cycle in my isolation tank crashes from any antibiotics.

I've found that if increasing the salt content or raising the temp.or adjusting the pH doesn't work you are better to just remove the fish and give them the burial at sea . No meds on the market work in my opinion . You are just wasting your money
