what to use to shave?

for men, what else can i use rather than shaving foam?
toothpaste?
shampoo?
soap?
what?

I use just a few drops of shampoo lathered up, I found shaving cream just clogs the razor.

I shave in the shower without foam. Anything that will hold moisture on you skin can be used.
