Well ...hmmm....for one thing, directly in front of a noun, "bit" doesn't work.

I'd like a little.
I'd like a bit.
I'd like a little water, please.
I'd like a bit water, please. X

We could fix this last one by adding the word "of."
I'd like a bit of water, please.

Also, "bit" can have the meaning "even a little."
I don't like that a bit.
If you said "I don't like that a little," it wouldn't have the same impact.

But there is one more thing -- little bit.

Little bit of xyz in my life.. Little bit of freedom in my life..
