I can find the drive to my dvd/cd since I had a new motherboard installed. I don't have any information in the stuff that came with the computer. I had a partitioned drive so I lost only the programs. I was told I would have to reinstall my programs that were lost. But since they're all on CD I can't!
This is all so frustrating!

Thank for all the answere. I think all three of you are right. I had to leave for vacation and will try to correct the problem when I return. Thanks again!

smgray is correct, it should not HAVE to find it, it should be listed automatically.

Do the lights come on when the computer boots? The light on the DVD player should blink a few times at boot. If not, double check the power supply to the DVD. Try a different power connector. Then check the connections like smgray mentioned. Once the computer is powered up, can you open the tray on the DVD drive? If so, and the connections are good, then the problem lies within the drive itself.

Make sure your BIOS settigns are correct.

Make sure your drive lettering is correct.

Good job on partitioning the drive though, at least all you have to do is reinstall your programs. Pat yourself on the back for that one...:)

Since you said you had a new mobo installed I have to think that someone else did it. For a DVD drive not to be found it may be connected incorrectly (the red stripe on the IDE cable should be closest to the power connection) make sure the power connection is attached, make sure the IDE cable is attached to the mobo correctly (usually you can only connect them one way but I have seen things forced). All the red stripes on the IDE cables should be facing the same way on the mobo connection. If the DVD drive is on its own IDE cable make sure it is a master. If it is on the same cable as a hard drive set the hard drive as master and the DVD as slave - do not use cable select. This may be worth a trip back to the installer to correct any problems.

Make sure the BIOS detects the drive; if it doesn't, then the OS won't. Press "windows+pause">"device manager">"cdrom">click on the plus sign>Your drive>"settings"> then check the drive letter, if it is the same as the hard drive, you must then change the drive letter. ie."Z".
