no no no the cost is excessive and nearly all do nothing. mostly over the phone advice only, getting anyone to look at it is impossible give them a wide berth not worth the money
edit the ppl on here who have told you all the rubbish, yes get service, cover are completely of there heads. the first year is free after that it will be almost just as cheap to but a new computer as have one repaired
.in actual fact some of pc world service contracts are almost the same price as a half decent computer. and when you report any fault they will only talk you through the fault on the phone and expect you to rectify it yourself, getting them to your home to do the job is almost imposible so what you pay for is a couple of phone calls. even if you take your computer to pc world they will not look at it and if they do they want to charge you again it is always something wrong that is not covered by the insurance my advice is to save you money and do not take out any form of service contract.
I cannot understand why ppl on here tell you to have you ever watched watchdog on BBC 1 OR read WHICH MAGAZINE OR MARTIN LEWIS the money saving expert believe me pal dont do it and dont take any notice who says you should be there done it worn the t shirt

do the math you can get a decent laptop for around £500 with the 12 month warranty that's less than £10 per week if it only lasts a year. by which time it's not worth a fat lot. and if it lasts this long it will probably last quite a lot longer.
not the same i know but we bought a washer/dryer the extra cover on offer would have almost have doubled the cost we thought hell if it breaks out of warranty throw it and buy a new one after about 3 years it's still going!

I have to agree with wilfred b on this one. The cover you get from places such as PC World isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
I can't tell you how many PCs I've been asked to take a look at because PC World couldn't or wouldn't do anything about the problem. I've even resorted to going back to PC World with disgruntled customers, along with my copy of notes of what's wrong with the system, and demanded that they replace the computer.
On Saturday of the week before last, a niece of mine was purchased a new laptop from PC World, but by Monday the sound had malfunctioned. She was asked to take it back to PC World, whose Tech Guys told them that they couldn't fix it. It was brought to my house on Thursday, and it was working within the hour. Sadly, the Tech Guys hadn't installed the correct driver for the soundcard. (They'd installed Windows XP drivers on a Windows Vista system.)
Do yourself a favour and hold onto your money. If you need your computer looking at, the chances are you'd find someone locally who'd do it cheaper.

1. Are you a computer Guru ?
2. Are you comfortable taking apart your computer ?
If you can't answer yes to both 1 and 2 above, follow this advice.
A. Find out how long the store guarantees the unit. 30, 45, 60 days after purchase.
B. Use the heck out of it during the in-store warranty because most electronics fail during the first 72 to 96 hours of intense use.
C. Just before the store warranty expires, go in and get the 1 or 2 year full warranty with 'in home' or 'at the store' repairs.
You'll never regret doing it.

hi alan
i have to disagree with the answers which said no,i beleive service cover is very important when purchasing a new p.c,especially when the purchaser is new to p.c,s
however do some research into the manufacturer or company you are buying from, and look at reveiws from customers, for example allthough "dell" p.c,s and laptops are very cheap and quite good, their service support is one of the worst around
were as companys like acer and mesh do quite reasonable service and support, however it depends on the support you need
my advice is ,if you know a fair bit about p.c,s and you think you can manage the repairs and maintenence yourself then give it a miss, however if you new to computers then purchase the service cover
any problems let me now
good luck alan !

no, it is not worth getting a cover plan.
computers dont usually break down. and parts are far cheaper now (and getting cheaper) that you can just go to a computer store (cheaper online) tell them the fault (or on hear) and get the necicerry part. and install it, for far less money then the cover!!
