sorry that this is in the wrong section it was a mistake!!
my husband has been a big ali fan for years he is fanatical, he watches his fights over and over again, he really enjoyed reading all your comments today, when he watches the fight he dances in his chair arms and legs waving about, even though he knows whats going to happen.

For once in his life your husband is right! In truth Ali (Cassius Clay as he was originally known) brought a previously unseen elegance and surefootedness to the ring that made watching boxing a totally different experience. To a large extent he simply embarrassed his opponents - showing up their more plodding styles! He was an expert showman too and his out of ring competitiveness was initially considered outrageous - he would taunt opponents at the weigh in oftentimes inventing rhymes to praise his own abilities and denigrate the other boxer. On taking the Muslim faith he changed his name to Mohammed Ali and, astonishingly considering the political and racial atmosphere in the US then, he held and even enhanced the respect he had gained in the ring. As a youngster I never missed one of his key bouts - listening in at three in the morning to the radio to catch them live! In later life he paid the price of the boxer as his mental and physical capacities waned rapidly but put him next to odious toads like Tyson and there's absolutely no comparison. A great boxer and a great man. Evidence of this is still to be seen in archive footage of interviews with Ali - notably Parkinson's UK interviews (remembering that Parky began life and made his career as a sports reporter and was the ideal interviewer for Ali) I can't think of anyone I know (mostly 50s age range now) who doesn't love Mohammed Ali! As he himself said 'I AM the greatest!' He remains that to this day!

Not the greatest, but one of the greatest. I have been a boxing fan for over 30 yrs and I will never ever give that title to any one boxer. It's just not fair.

I'm not going to argue with your husband, just say yes, just to shut him up. You know what men go like if they don't get their own way.
Yes Ali was the best boxer - in his day!!

I agree. I am not a sports fan, but it is impossible not to like Ali. He was an airbag and liked to talk, but he lived up to his own line of crap, didn't he?
