Because they're trying to be ~*~unique~*~ and failing miserably.

I agree. My son's name is Vincent Conner. I personally went to school with 5 or 6 guys named Josh. Probably 2-3 Justin's and so forth. I like the really old names. Some of the new names are cute....but that is also how we end up with children named Apple (Gwyneth Palthrow) and Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee). Serious and do we need to bring in Rumer, Scout and Tallulah (Bruce Willis & Demi Moore). Some people just take it a little too far. I think there is a fine line between not conforming and giving your child a name that they are going to get made fun of for. People really need to find that line.

Don't want my child to have my great grandma or grand dad's name. Be original. It would be sooooooooo boring for everybody were to keep using the same plain, old fashioned names. And they sound funny while ur young. Imagine calling a baby Barbara or Sue. Ewwwww. I would never. They will forever get picked on & they would hate u. I would name my child something that sounds good while they're young & can mature with them, but if u wanna name ur children old people's names, then go ahead.

Hell, how I agree with you!

Why do people come on to Yahoo to ask for a name for their child anyway?

Best names are the tried and trusted old ones. Apparently they do better at school with good old fashioned names, too!

James is top for boys - can't recall the top one for girls but I think that Helen came in at about third.

Also, they don't seem to realise that when they give their children these dreadful names that they are really ageing them! The Kylies, etc. of now will become the Agatha's of yesteryear!

Chelsea, Paris, Rome - did anyone say London? Was their a Berlin or Moscow among them? Liverpool, Manchester? Okay, so it is all getting too silly!

Potential parents - please look for proper names!

What exactly do you mean by "fancy" names?

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to name your child something boring and overused. I want to name my child something different. I don't want to call my child's name and have twenty other children look at me because they all have the same name. It's silly. There are plenty of old-fashioned names that are beautiful and easy-to-use but aren't terribly common.

I chose Annaliese for my daughter so she could shorten it to Anna, Elisa, or whatever she chose. I really didn't think Edith, Edna or Elsie suited her as a baby lol... in all seriousness though, Times change and so do names.. why not?

There's nothing wrong with the old names - I'm Elizabeth Veronica lol. They only pick fancy ones because they're sick of the old ones I guess.

I love old names.
Classic and timeless.
I like uncommon or underused old names like Thomas, Peter and Audrey.
