There are and have been many, but my vote has to go to Ian Curtis [r.i.p] of Joy Division.
Great musician, but goodness me...

Ian Curtis was pretty depressing even prior to hanging himself so he would also be my runaway #1 choice. However some others who might still be among the living include:

Morrissey
Robert Smith - perhaps not lately, he seems almost giddy since 1992.
Amy Winehouse - her life is a trainwreck and that in itself is depressing.
Peter Steele - we know in real life he is completely depressed, so it's genuine.

heart - Ann Wilson has the superb voice of all women in rock. The Pretenders - Chrissie Hynde is enormous. Joan Jett and the BlackHearts - Joan only flat out rocks. Pat Benatar - staggering vocal potential and he or she rocks. Fleetwood Mac - the two Nicks and McVie are great singers. enormous Brother and the conserving business enterprise - Janis replaced into between the superb blues belters and rocker chicks ever. i comprehend that those are all older communities and singers, I only like them extra clever. As for extra moderen stuff, i think of Gwen Stefani has a great voice all nevertheless i do unlike countless her music, i think of she replaced into extra clever devoid of doubt. somebody else stated hollow - Courtney does have a great voice and places on a (ahem) great teach. the lady that sings for rubbish is rather great additionally.

Thom Yorke (Radiohead) - Aside from most their work being so depressing and sad, his stage presence is so melancholy. He's often said that certain songs make him cry or lose his emotions when performed. In fact, Thom has a tough time when they play Street Spirit because that song effects him so much.

Aaron Stainthorpe of My Dying Bride. His voice is so depressing and dark, his lyrics are even worse.
Steve Austin of Today Is The Day is not only depressing but very angry and bitter. It's a volatile combination.

Kurt Cobain the miserable git. And yes he was depressing... his music was depressing and took the fun out of rock music. And I think killing himself did inflict depression on many so of course he was depressing. Shame he ended up the way he did, but no loss to me personally. Bit drastic killing himself (why not just fade away since he wasn't THAT good and people would soon have left him alone) but hey Foo Fighters are 10000000 times better than Nirvana so....

Oh and Amy Winehouse depresses me being in the papers all the time. And her music sucks IMHO.

Flame away lol.
