I'm having trouble figuring out what makes Limbaugh an authority to be listened to regarding politics and national security. I could understand if he had worked as a soldier in the U.S. Army, or if he had held a political office, or if he at least had an advanced education in political science and national security. But the only thing I know he's done is worked in radio. Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between Rush Limbaugh and any other average joe from off the street, as far as discussing important political policy is concerned? Why do people listen to him and believe him? Are there really that many suggestible people in the world?

So don't listen to him! He is nothing but an entertainer. If people are so weak minded as to take the guy seriously then they will get what the deserve. I frankly don't care about him, his narrow minded views, or his Viagra.

He attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned a "D" in a speech class. (Some contend it was an "F".)[5] Limbaugh dropped out after two semesters and one summer; according to his mother, "he flunked everything", even a modern ballroom dancing class.[2] This would have normally made him eligible to be drafted for service in the Vietnam War but he was classified as "1-Y" (later reclassified "4-F") due to a diagnosis of Pilonidal disease.

makes him good enough for right-wing fanatics.

Yes, there are that many uninformed people who just take what he says as gospel!

Rush is loud and overbearing. He has a really good "presence" that compels some to listen to him.

Just the fact that he hammers on an idea until it is driven securely into the minds of those who will not do thier own research has made him popular.

I have listened to him a few times. One thing I notice with him (and most others on talk radio) is that when presented wit facts that may obliterate thier view, they simply barge in with loud denials and slurs to cut off argument.

You give him too much credit. Mr. Limbaugh is an entertainer. I listen to him every day. He happens to agree with me on most political issues. I was in the Army. That give me no special rights or abilities. If Mr. Limbaugh had gone to college, he may have been unduly influenced by the left wing liberal loonies who teach Poly Sci. Everyone forms his own political views based on life's experience. He is no different than anyone else. He articulates views that people agree with.
I don't think Mr. Limbaugh has a track record of persuading anyone to adopt his views. If more people were open-minded and listened to him with an open mind, they would be enlightened. When it comes to politics, most people are firm in their views.
I am a conservative. No one has ever changed my mind about anything.

The problem is that his listeners tend to think of him as a voice of leadership. But he is not a good leader, because he cannot lead by example -- unless he's talking about being a talk-show host.

He has an extremely clear view of what conservatism and liberalism are, and what makes America the greatest country in the world. He also recognizes the damage that modern liberalism is doing to America and who modern liberal politicians really are. He has an effective way of presenting that information in a truly balanced way. After all he spends time every day playing sound bites of liberal politicians and regularly takes calls from both conservatives and liberalis alike. He is despised by the left because they are powerless to refute his matierial. Liberal politicians have always been terrified of confronting him on the air and many liberals say that they have never listened to him and never will. That is excellent evidence that they are unable to complete on the field of ideas and must resort to attempting to ridicule him. Their attempts at ridicule are only heard by the left. As a result of his expertise he is the most popular figure on the radio and has been for several years.

I love talk Radio, but your side hasn't figured out who anyone wants to listen too! Limbaugh and others actually bring out stories you NEVER hear in the Liberal media. And talk radio has a HUGE audience. Memorial weekend, the house and senate tried to pass the amnesty bill legalizing illegals! If it hadn't been for talk radio it would have passed un-noticed and too late! Americans want a secured border, and illegals accounted for and have them pay their fair share. And if you do listen, you will hear how the house and senate have put some of the immigration laws they wanted passed, AGAINST what 80%+ of americans didn't want. and are sticking it into the new defense bill and child health care bill. SNEAKY as it gets. Talk radio brings out the details of this and Liberal media Doesn't!

There is nothing different from Rush and the average Joe except that Rush does his homework and the average Joe doesn't. Credentials? LOL So you think serving in the military or holding a political office makes you the end all in knowledge of those two topics? That's like saying a kid who graduated law school is qualified to sit on the supreme court. Rush is right 98.7 % of the time. If you can prove any different then you need to contact him.
