I have a old ATI 9600 256mb... When I play Battlefield 1942, the graphics gets choopy or scratchy. I have a 1gig of ram, AMD Anthlon 1.1ghz and 500gigs harddrive. So is it just my card or do I have to upgrade something? Plus its stiall a XP home edtion.

the 9600, while old, was a good card for bf1942 when it launched. The athlon (xp i am guessing?) was not a good gaming chip though. The 9600 would not be able to handle new games, but should be able to cut through bf1942 with ease. A friend of mine has a similar setup, (athlon xp cpu and moderate gpu) he has similar issues. I blame the athlon xp for poor performance.

You might want to try changing your desktop resolution to 800x600 and 16 bit. That's the way we used to play these 3d games with under powered systems. See, by doing that, you are reducing the number of pixels the card has to generate in a second. You will likely get a higher framerate as a result.

Its probably not that the card is BAD but that the newer cards fully support directX9 and the newer games need that. Without hardware support for DirectX on the graphics card, it has to be simulated by the processor.

Start by searching for an updated driver. If that does not help then a new card with 512 MB is in order.
