Ok, imagine that the planes flew into the World Trade Centers and killed a few hundred instead of a few thousand?
Im not saying that would be any better for the relatives of the people that would've still died, but would the whole country freak out as bad as we did and would we still have gone to war?
What happened was awful, but I don't think the terrorists even meant for the towers to fall down. It was kind of a fluke that they did, right?
I asked this question to people in person and they all seem to get offended and say things like "yes, the towers were an american icon, we still would've gone to war"
Im not trying to offend anyone, Im just a naturally curious person (and a Scoiology major) and Stop for a second and really imagine that morning you heard it on the news...for me I was like, whoa scary, they flew an airplane into the towers what bastards, THEN the towers fell and I was so mad and sad and my whole outlook on the thing changed.
Any thoughts?

I guess what I want to know is...remember back to that morning, what changed when you saw the Towers fall? How did you feel differently? Were you angrier, did you want to "get back" at whoever did this, when before they fell it was just like, wow, how scary. That was my reaction.
I don't mean to sound so detached and insensitive, but I truly believe that the outcome would have been different. History could've taken a completely different turn.
My hypothesis is that if the towers wouldn't have fallen the president wouldn't have as much power today as he does.

but thats just my opinion

America is a very wounded nation right now. I wouldn't ask a whole lot of questions. They aren't in any state of mind to think clearly.

If only we knew the real truth, then we could honestly answer what happened. I think the day will come when we learn the world was never, ever, what we thought it was.

If you are a sociology student then study society. Look at economics, and government. You'll find there are many factors at work, you have corporations (which run government) and two separate government entities, both with totally opposing views. You also have a military, which is another entity onto itself which also affects government.

Without anyone overseeing health care, it's all governed by corporations too. I'm not sure about education if it's run by states or federally. So there isn't any consistency of government anywhere at all.

This leaves room for a lot of corruption, and so who knows what the toothpicks is REALLY going on there and just who is behind it. A more tangled web could never exist and I don't think even the president knows that the bejeezus really goes on in his administration.

The towers being attacked is just outside forces reacting to the USA's involvment in their country...stuff that has been going on for decades, all the middle east Israeli/Palestinian conflict. It's about territory and who is behind backing one and the other. That should be clear to just about everyone now isn't it?

Does it even matter anymore who is right and who is wrong? You're caught up in it, and that's never going to go away.

Yes, when we could see the towers falling and people running for their lives and everything turning to grey...that moment DID change how we felt. I've had the same thought as you before. I still think it would have been crazy but not to the extent it became.

Just like in the media or in movies, the more spectacular they make something the more we notice, the more we remember.

Okay... first off, your statement of: "...but I don't think the terrorists even meant for the towers to fall down. It was kind of a fluke that they did, right? " is curious.

Osama bin Laden and Al Queda's STATED objective was to kill as many as possible, and to destroy the towers. They tried to blow them up in 1993 with a truck bomb.

I think the American reaction would have been just about the same... several hundred were killed just in the impact, as well as the other two crashes.
