If you are running XP I would recommend at least double that with a Celeron. XP is a memory hog on it's own and the Celeron processor no matter what speed isn't helping..

It's okay but it's the bare minimum. You will really wish you had more RAM one day. 256 will make your machine very slow. The more RAM the faster it will be. These days I'd go for a minimum of 1 gig if you can manage it. Especially if you're going to use Vista. 256 will adequately run your programs as long as you're not gaming but you will notice the difference if you use a machine with more RAM.

256 is not enough to get you started with ANY processor. Recommended for Win 98 512 Mb, XP 1 Gb, Vista 2 Gb.

If you want to use minimum number of programs and stick to traditional ones like Word, excel etc. No good if you are downloading stuff, using your computer for multi media. You really need at least 1g of RAM and, if you can afford, a computer with 2gb.

it depends on what Operating system you wan to run. for XP you might get away with it. for Vista its a definite no. i would reccommend 512mb as ram is not so expensive nowadays.
